A lil off the wall perhaps but... after all this is just a message board.

The best decision the U has made this year - better even than firing Brewster was:

They settled the Jimmy Williams case without dragging it out. Last year Tubby had to work with a couple of his players about the trials and tribulations of appearing in court. He also had to deal with off the court (in court) issues of his own. Tubby talked often about 'distractions from the game' issues last year. His biggest distraction last year may not have been dealing with Trevor or Royce or even to a far lesser extent Devron and Nolen. His biggest distraction may have been his own courtroom and deposition hearings surrounding the Jimmy Williams case - a member of his own fraternity of coaches. I am sure this had to take a toll on his own distraction level from BB Court issues. I am sure it is no fun appearing in court, especially if you are the defendant, no matter what the general perception is of the validity of the claim.

JMO, but I see a more focused Tubby this year. He seemed to make a quick and decisive move with Devoe. I think Devoe knows where he stands and prolly knows exactly when he will come back as long as he follows the Tubby way. Last year Tubby could be yelling at his players to stay out of the courtroom - but he may have had to do it while on his way to meet with his attorneys to prepare for his next deposition for his own case. I even like his in-game coaching decisions better this year. Maybe its just because they are 3-0. Not sure a better Tubby this year can be attributed to settling the Jimmy Williams case - but who knows? I like what I see so far.

Whatever money the U had to shell out this year to finalize the Jimmy Williams settlement was prolly well worth it. And it might have been better spent last year before going to court.

Now if they just beat Carolina - I will be convinced.

I'll throw in my speculation, as well. I think Tubby, like many of us on this board, sees huge potential in this team, and simply was putting everyone on a short leash. Thus, the Devoe incident. Get the crap out of the way now and be ready to focus on basketball. Far better to be dealing with discipline issues now than in early January.

I don't need a win against UNC to be convinced, but I do need a game in which they show they belong on the same court with the best. Now is the time to make a mark on the national landscape.

Tubby "kicked butt and took names" after the 2002 "Team Turmoil" season at UK. He booted 4 players off the 2002 squad and replaced them with others.

He proceeded to coach his teams to 87-15 (29-5 average) the next 3 seasons.
