Here is hoping that we'll no longer hear about Rodney and Trevor turning pro

There were six NBA scouts at the Ohio State-Minnesota game and Rodney scored six points in the last 3:31 of the game to reach seven points and Trevor had eight points and seven rebounds.

I hope that we can have the focus on this year and stop the nonsense about them turning pro.

Rodney needs to turn into a division 1 college player first. I liked him for the last couple of minutes yesterday. I hope we can see more of that for the rest of the year.

One week ago I posted that Trevor would be a first round draft pick in 2011. I stand corrected. Now I hope he does stick around and develops into the first round draft pick for 2012 that he has the potential to be.

Thank you Chris for this blast of common sense, I always enjoy your input.

Chris Monter = voice of reason
Myron Medcalf = voice of nonsense

I was chatting before the game with my buddy who said that if Trevor were to have a monster game (containing Sullinger, double double, and having the Gophers win, or at least come close to winning) he would be MUCH more likely to turn pro. It would've been his ticket to much more coverage, higher draft stock, etc. Yesterday's game probably brought everyone back to reality on both him & Rodney.

Atl Gopher, you bring up a great point. I loved the pull up jumper that Rodney shot with 56 seconds left. I'd like to see him do more of that, instead of wither dunking the ball and shooting threes.

Trevor/Rodney

I hope they both return, obviously. Of the two, Trevor has a better pro future right now; it just depends on whether he wants to go overseas to play.

I agree with the comment about Rodney becoming a DI player first, and the comment about the pull-up he hit when the outcome was decided. What is amazing is how reluctant he is to even dribble the ball once it is passed to him. I hope he improves, but its been a slow process so far.

To those of you who think that this talk is just Myron making stuff up, you are wrong. There has been certainly been chatter about that topic.

Plenty of players each year make ill-advised decisions about entering the draft. Plenty of players have people in their ears saying they are great and advising them to go pro early. Plenty of players are in positions where they need the cash.

I'll bet anybody one cold adult beverage that at least one of the two declares for the draft. I'm not saying they are going to stay in, but I bet at least one of them tests the waters.

anonymous, you are right. Myron is just writing about player's statuses from Mock Draft sites. I just have a huge issue with those type of sites. They had Harrison Barnes as the top pick this preseason. Last year, it was Willie Warren of Oklahoma, the year before B.J. Mullens and the year before that Koustos Koufos.

All those players ended up coming out and none of those players were even lottery picks let alone the top overall pick. My philosophy is to do a mock draft only after the players declare, that is 2 months before the draft, which is plenty of time for speculation.

I agree with his assessment on Rodney. He is going nowhere. However, I am not sure about Trevor. He isn't young and he needs money. Europe isn't looking for lottery players, they want dunkers and Americans. Trevor could get paid a nice salary over there. It is a temptation at the very least.

Most the 'chatter' we hear is from Myron. And like Chris points out, right now its irrelevant.

At the beginning of the year I thought there was a chance Trevor could be a late first round pick, now I think it would be in his best interest to come back for another year.

If he makes improvements next year he could possibly work into a late lottery pick or mid first rounder, depending on who else is in the draft.

Well right now, every site I have seen doesn't have either of them in the draft at all in 2011, and haven't all year. Almost every mock draft I've seen since like the beginning of the year has had Rodney and Trevor in the 2012 draft. I'm not sure why people are getting upset cause scouts are taking a look at them. They have raw athletic ability to hang in the NBA, so yes, scouts are taking notice. That doesn't mean they're gonna necessarily draft a kid that year. I don't know why it would be a bad thing to have players on the team that NBA scouts are taking a look at.

I love Trevor, but he has NO offensive game. He has nothing with his back to the backet, no jump shot, he can't dribble...I don't see why anyone was ever calling him a first round pick. He CAN develop these things, and you know he works hard, but come on its unfair to him to call him NBA status.

Guys like Leon Powe who owned in college and have a good repertoire of offensive moves ride the bench on the worst teams in the league. Guys in the NBA are amazing and completely outclass the guys in college.

That is true to some extent (those amazing NBA guys usually come from college, or in prior years, high schools).

Part of it too is just the right system, right guys around you, ability to play in a different style of game, etc.

You are right, however, in that Trevor needs to develop a go-to post move. He is a hard working guy though and I am sure he is aware of this and I am confident he will work at it.

Are we not all part of the problem? The hype these guys get can often hurt them... at least in everyone's mind. Every one was off the charts excited about Rodney, Trevor and next year Joe, Andre... fact is every player has strengths and weaknesses. The hype surrounding the guys puts an unfair expectation that they should always perform at 100%. Who knows if Rodney will play in the league... but when he was a senior in high school almost everyone was saying he was going to. I don't agree with all of the hype put out there. No disrespect to Chris Monter... but how many articles or reports has he (and others) written about Tyus? Give him a chance to grow up and into the player he will become. I do understand the pressure and expectation there is for D1 athletics, and I agree its ok to hold them to a higher level in a lot of areas... but I don't like the generated hype. I guess no one wants to be the one to miss on a story, and we all certainly read the stories like they are truth, so that sets up the expectations.

Again, it isn't Myron chatter.

There is certainly talk in the basketball community in this town that they will at least consider options after this season. How much has that changed since the beginning of the season? That's unclear.

But if you don't think Trevor and/or Rodney haven't talked with people about how they are/were considering it, you're kidding yourself and blaming the messenger.

That's the reality of world we live in. Many, many players think the only reason guys stay until they are seniors is because they aren't good enough to go out.

Rodney should transfer to Augsburg and shoot 1500 shots a day...Maybe he can be a late bloomer like Dejean George...

Seems like Myron is obsessed with it (along with Ralph's pedigree), far beyond just being the messenger. Its obvious they would consider it, anyone with the opportunity would.

Chris - I couldn't agree more. Neither will be drafted if they declare.
