NIL$ was not the main factor last night. Sure there’s Mendoza but he wasn’t the highest paid QB on the field.

More notably, the most heroic plays of that game (and all the points aside from Mendoza’s epic run) came from
Charlie Becker - came to IU before Cignetti, did nothing until late this year so probably little NIL$
Jamari Sharpe (game winning INT) - came to IU before Cignetti, did little until this year so probably little NIL$
Amail Kamara (blocked punt) - came from JMU, his stats weren’t eye popping, I doubt he got a lot of $
Isaiah Jones (blocked punt TD recovery) - came to IU before Cignetti, did nothing until last year so probably average NIL$
Riley Nowakowski (first TD) - came from Wisconsin where he had only caught a handful of passes, couldn’t be much NIL$ there
Niko Radicic (kicker, scored 9 of their pts which were all needed) - came to IU before Cignetti, last year was mostly a boatload of extra points so probably not much NIL$
 

That is whole lot of probably's and assumptions. I guess we can all just assume you're probably right. Case closed on the money factor.

I agree. List a handful of players out of about 200 total, take a wild azz guess that they aren't getting much in NIL, and then come to the conclusion that NIL money isn't all that people think it is.

That's about the most convincing argument I've ever heard. Sarcasm.
 

Again... Indiana's turnaround is not for one single reason. It's the perfect storm of a great coach that can identify talent, good in-game coaching, the existence of the transfer portal, AND NIL. Take away the portal and NIL and I highly doubt Indiana has the 2 seasons they've had. I'm sure they still would have been very good seasons but not like what we've seen.

Yep. Hire Cignetti in the old days of college football (5 years ago) and he almost certainly improves them but they would not have been able to do anything like what they just did.

It was the perfect storm of everything coming together.
 



NIL and the portal helped the team get there. No question. That position allowed lesser-known players to make some great plays.

OP provided evidence? Sorry, he did not. He provided assumptions because he knows no dollar amounts, thus, my post. Cignetti is great. Love him, but don't kid yourself for a moment that money didn't figure into this NC. I'll refer to the comment by Gold Rush. I think we can all agree that a lot of things played into this. I can't claim one thing more than another. He's definitely a great coach, and no one can argue that point.
 

There are a lot of kids on Miami who make “average NIL” too


Indiana’s coach has stated he expects to be in or near the top 10 in money then signed a large extension.


So I am guessing they are in or near the top 10 in money.
But even if they’re 20th, they’re spending smarter.
Props to them for who they target.
I can tell you confidence I would be more surprised to learn Indiana is 35th in money than I would be to learn they are 10th


The good news is. If they’re 20th that means scouting may be more important than salary.
