"Gophers coach Tracy Claeys said Monday that the team plans to incorporate helmet stickers this fall with tiny gold bricks that will be awarded for plays that help the team win. Claeys stressed the new stickers will be small, so as not to take over the helmets.

Claeys said a couple months ago that the team was thinking about adding the stickers. The staff is currently looking at designs for the gold bricks. He said the bricks might even be smaller than the bones the Georgia Bulldogs put on the back of their helmets.

Claeys said one goal is to reward plays that might not show up in the highlights. An example would be a wide receiver holding a key down-field block that helps Shannon Brooks or Rodney Smith score a rushing touchdown."

The helmet sticker thing buried the lead:

Santoso to be the punter, and Carpenter to handle <50 yard FGs.

Everyone should be healthy for fall practice!!!!

Great news. I'd like to know if they've been practicing onside kicks or if they're going with that crazy Chinese fire drill and kick out of bounds. Can we retire that one this season?

the duo punter/kicker combo worries me, but i trust the staff!

Don't like having two kickers. If they're going to do it though Santoso should handle 40+

I guess it has to be bricks but I really wanted Goldy stickers....

Have we been told what jersey combinations they will wear yet? If they don't wear maroon and gold at home how will I know who is playing?!

It is all set up for the big guy to punch it into the end zone on those fake punts when we are inside the 5yd line...lol

The kicks were so bad we have no idea if the formation would work.

Most of the on-side kicks I saw would not have worked if the other team had 6 guys on the field.

With two of them standing at the goal line, two at about the 25, and two up front with each one defending a side of the field.

They wouldn't have worked with zero on the receiving team. Santoso and one of the backups kept kicking it to the 43 yard line, time after time. I was and remain stupefied at the strategy. Drive it into the ground and hope for a high pop so the blockers can start hitting receivers. Yeah it's low percentage but better than zero percentage.

Book it: Santoso out kicks his coverage frequently this year and allows multiple big punt returns.
