Heisman hopeful Todd Gurley suspended for pay for autographs issue

I've been on the road the past couple of weeks, but how did this not get posted before 8:13 today?

On another note, it appears that the fans of Georgia have reached the 3rd stage of grief:

Not a hoax

What's so odd is this is big news except for the fact players sued EA Sports and the NCAA just last year for not paying them to use their likeness. So this may be a violation today, but almost certainly will not be in 5 years.

There can be lots of arguments about the fairness of the rule, but it is really dumb to violate a rule that got so much media attention with Johnny Clipboard a few years ago.

and by few years ago you mean last year.

The way the payment was made (direct to Gurley) probably still will be a violation. In the future, the payment will be made to the school as a trustee for an account for the player. The player has access to the account once he declares for the draft or uses up his eligibility, whichever comes first.

Yep, he should have spent his time sexually assaulting females, stealing groceries, and yelling obscenities on campus. Good lord, NCAA enforcement is absurd.

He knew the rule and he broke it. That's on him regardless of what you or Gurley thinks of the rule.

You must be one of those guys that gets pulled over for going 65 in a 55 and then complains to the officer about the other drivers that were going faster than you. You still broke the rules regardless of the actions of those around you.

How does anyone like this guy?

I almost give Gurley a little bit of slack seeing as how his hometown of Tarboro, NC in high school has about 21% of children living below the poverty line. I don't know anything about his upbringing, but I'm guessing he didn't live the privileged life that Johnny did.

Manziel had all the money he could want, and still decided to be stupid.

Ski-U-Masturbator is starting to rival parkski. Maybe that is where the ski comes from? Parkski, is that you?

No, I'm the kind of guy who's going to accept and pay my speeding ticket but wonder why the officer doesn't notice the rapes and drug deaks happening just on the other side of the road.

The guy is going to get paid a lot in just a few months, why not suck it up until then? No matter what you think of the rules, it was a dumb move on his part.

This rule is very UNLIKELY to be changed IMO.

If you can make money off of autographs what is stop a big booster from paying a couple grand for one? What is to stop a bigger booster to pay a million dollars for one?

College athletics might change to allow schools to pay some players. College football will essentially end if they allow third parties to pay money to athletes. The second third parties can pay any money it becomes very difficult to regulate.

Georgia sure didn't need him yesterday did they?

And was still ranked #23 yesterday morning, but I see your point.
Definitely an impressive win for Georgia. I think Georgia is one of the more likable teams in that conference. I am a richt fan.
