The National Sports Center in Blaine is on State Property and operated by the NSC which is a non-profit. They will be bringing a new Professional Soccer Team to Blaine this year. One of the big amenities through the renovation of the site is a beer garden. How is this ok, but not ok for the U to have alcohol is designated areas?

I will never sit in one of the beer areas at TCF if they arrive, but thought this was odd.

Are they receiving state money for the renovations?

I'm not an expert on this issue so someone correct me if I am wrong but wasn't the issue that they had with the U selling alcohol that they were only willing to sell it to the fat cats in the club level? I believe that if they would have been willing to sell it to everyone the legislature had no problem with it.

(Insert beating a dead horse emoticon here)

"fat cats"? so if you want to buy a suite or club seat in tcf, williams or mariucci and support U of M football/basketball/hockey at the same time (and one of the benefits of that is that you can purchase some alcohol while at the game) you are somehow inherently bad, which is what the term "fat cats" usually implies. please......class warfare much?

not speaking to you specificially, but there are some unbelievably annoying, as well as pandering, politicians and everyday citizens in this state who think everything has to always be 100% equal all of the time. that is it somehow horrible to allow a person to pay more to get more than a person who either doesn't want to pay more or can't. who cares.

i will not ever forgive the idiots at the legislature for hurting the U of M athletic dept financially as they did when they passed their stupid alcohol sales law specifically targeted at the U of M.

I think the intentions of my post were unclear. By using the term "fat cat" I was trying to express the attitude of the state legislature that passed the law, not expressing my own. Personally I have no problem with alcohol sales in the suite/club level. Why not generate as much revenue as possible? Expecting alcohol sales stadium wide for the entire stadium would seem to be unrealistic for an on campus stadium.

"everything has to always be 100% equal all the time"

Its called communism.
