Adam Weber. Why not? There are a number of reasons for him to have a big smile this year.

1. Recievers - He is throwing to the best group of recievers in the Big Ten. Decker (All-American), Ben (Mr. Consistency), Hayo (Top JR College player in the nation according to Scout), Green, Smith, and Mcknight (The Young Guns).

2. Running Backs - Weber goes from just two running backs (Eskridge and Shady) to five running backs adding Bennet, Whaley and Limpscomb. The last three running backs bring explosiveness to the position and a very good ball catcher out of the backfield (Bennet).

3. O-line - 13 experienced guys who are red shirt sophmores thru seniors, and have played a lot of college ball. This line will be huge and a lot better. A line up with Davis, Caurfel, Burris, Ned and Dom would have to be the biggest in the Big Ten.

4. Tight ends you lose Simmons but keep Tow and get two fast younger guys in Hagemen, and Lair. Those younger guys have big play potential.

5. Fischer and Davis will be a bigger upgrade for our offensive coaches. Plus Fischer wants a more balance offense which Weber wants.

If your Adam Weber things couldn't be getting any better then they are for this year.

We have a solid WR core now, but best in Big Ten? I'm not so sure about that.

Sorry

Mistake on O-line Willis not Davis.

What makes you say we have the best group of receivers in the Big Ten? I'd say we are probably right in the middle.

Does anyone else think that Gray could significantly eat up some of Weber's playing time by the end of the year?

COULD, but probably won't if Weber plays well, which I am expecting him to. Gray will see some time, but people expecting him to come in here and take over the whole thing ala Pryor will be disappointed I think. Of course, Boeckman was like an All-Big Ten guy and he got replaced, so you never know.

I think overall we have a greatly improved, solid group of receivers. Maybe not best in the BT, but I see no reason for a fan not to believe they are, as a unit anyway! They have at least 3 potential big play receivers in Decker, Carpenter and Green to go along with the depth the others bring! The level of dependability as improved with arguable not a weak receiver among them!

Through in the TEs and all that to say as a unit, they are looking real good and with next years recruits will continue to get even better!

I think the only way Gray eats up any playing time is if Weber gets injured. Gray needs a year as #2 and Alipate would be better served by redshirting and let Pittman be #3 for depth!

although boeckman was and is a good qb (he'll prolly draw an nfl paycheck as a 3rd stringer for a number of years into the future), he is not as good as weber...

gray will have a harder time supplanting weber than pryor had with boeckman...assuming weber stays healthy...because gray will have to beat out a better qb...

the advantage gray will have coming in, though, is that weber will have to learn his 3rd 'u' offense (mitch browning/tony peterson.......to dunbar.......to the new regime), so gray will not be as far behind as he would be if dunbar had been allowed to stay and finish out his contract...

I think that matt stommes has a very good shot at getting a starting job on the OL

I don't disagree with the best wide receivers in the big ten statement at all. If you look at our receiving corps it obviously starts out with decker who is the best receiver in the big ten and then if hayo comes in this year and performs even half as well as he did in juco then I think that would give us probably the best 1-2punch in the big 10 and you add green kuznia pittman smith and many more youngsters to the mix I can't imagine a deeper group that. Maybe I am forgetting some team out there with great wide receivers in the big 10 but honestly I can't think of one team that would challenge our receivers other than maybe Illinois with benn and company. That's just my opinion so maybe I'm way off base.

OSU and Michigan ALWAYS have stellar wideouts. Green is unproven as of yet and Carpenter hasn't played a down in maroon and gold yet. So to say the best is, IMO, a far reach.

If this crew of receivers (and trust me, I like it) can play anywhere near the PSU corp of receivers over the last 3 years (3 of whom just graduated), then the Gophers will be a team to be reckoned with. But I'd like to see a little proof of that potential before I crown them anything. Other BT teams that could make a claim to have stellar receiving corps and may think your argument is off-base: OSU, Mich, Mich St., Ill. ...

In Ohio States bowl game they put Terrell Pryor at WR when they where at the goal line. I was wondering if Marquise Gray could maybe do that.

They did that because Pryor is so tall, so they could throw the fade to him. Gray is 6-4 220 so he is pretty big, but not Pryor big.
