Per Jeff Goodman of ESPN, the Pitinos close to finalizing home and home starting in Louisville in 2015-16 season.

Was just about to post this good news. Hopefully these kind of games against major conference teams can become more of a regular occurrence under Pitino than in previous seasons.

great to hear!

I just hope Richard doesn't get carried away and run up the score on Pops.

I'll be traveling to The Barn for that one, I wouldn't miss it. Makes me think of the battles Clem's teams used to have with some really good Cincinnati teams in the '90s. That's about the last time we had that level of non-conference opponent visit Minneapolis.

Sweet. I hope there's one coming for this year too.

I witnessed a crushing Cinci down-by-one length of the floor drive with maybe 4 seconds to play to barely beat the buzzer and steal the game from us. Ugh.

If you listen really carefully, you'll hear the distant sound of ESPN executives wetting their pants.

I was there too. That, the last second drive my Mateen Cleaves to lose vs. MSU in '99, and the last minute meltdown vs. Illinois at The Barn in 2002 were the most crushing Gophers basketball losses I've seen in person.

Exactly. If this series comes to fruition, at least now there's a chance we'll have 2 decent home games in November/December.

2014-15: ??

2015-16: ACC Challenge opponent likely at home + a 2nd home & home starting in Minneapolis, or a Big East Challenge home game.

2016-17: The 'Ville at The Barn + a 2nd home & home ending in Minneapolis, or a Big East Challenge game (if 2015-16 was on the road).

Won't hold my breath, but this provides hope it can happen.

Never understood the complaining about non con scheds after Pitino was hired. Pitinos have egos and they're fed in part by being on ESPN and CBS. He just wanted a roster that was prepared for those challenges and we're beginning to see that now.

Good to hear, certainly, that's progress. That said, this also smells of a smoke screen to gloss over (just prior to the nonconference schedule release) that it's unlikely there'll be a notable (non-Big Ten) opponent coming to Williams this season?

Courier Journal: Pitino vs. Pitino series looming? 'Not really'

A tweet from ESPN's Jeff Goodman on Tuesday night said that Rick Pitino's University of Louisville was planning a future home-and-home basketball series with his son Richard's program at the University of Minnesota.

But Rick Pitino, asked on Wednesday if he and his son were having such discussions, said, "Not really."

The teams do meet in the season opener on Nov. 14 in Puerto Rico as part of the Armed Forces Classic, but U of L spokesman Kenny Klein said no further series had been agreed on.

Go Gophers!!

But, but, but. What has U of M spokesman said?

I want to hear about the 14 year home and home deal the Pitinos made with Louisville and us. That would make me worry less about the future.

I witnessed a crushing Cinci down-by-one length of the floor drive with maybe 4 seconds to play to barely beat the buzzer and steal the game from us. Ugh.

I was there too. Cincy's Lazalle Durden clearly traveled before the big three pointer. Chicken no call by the officials.

This was after Sanden hit a three with about four seconds left to tie it.
