I like the hire, but I hope, hope, hope hope.....
that he can effectively implement half court offense and defense.
You can't win in the Big Ten without it.
Some of his comments make me a bit wary.

He said he runs an offense similar to Florida's. Lots of ball screens, being aggressive and taking a fair amount of 3 point shots. I like the sound of that.

Yeah. We are going to be a perimeter based team. We are going to be shooting a TON of threes next season. I like Elliot, but on offense, his best skills are offensive rebounding and setting screens. Buggs is versatile and probably is more effective as a stretch 4 and the other three guys are perimeter players. I expect to see a lot of Oto at the #4.

The video I've seen bears that out.

May or may not have just youtubed Oto Osenieks highlights to see if this could even happen.....

Oh no. I saw a sagging D and then guys flying out to contest a three. Sounds familiar.

That Malik kid looks pretty darn good.

But did you see them score against the zone!?!?

Agree, Malik Smith looks really good. Also, was it just me or did Rich's hand shake make Crean's look slow and drawn out? Lol

Haha. He blew right by him!!

One thing I saw from FIU, they did three things consistently on offense. Spaced the floor, players moving without the ball, and the ball moving. That is a recipe for a very good half court offense. They were able to dribble penetrate, and pass the ball to the inner half. The defense had trouble recovering from doubling the post. The recovery to the close out was a little late, but the technique was good. They were level 3 defense. I think Coach Pitino will want a level 4 or possibly higher. Teams get better when they know the rotations to the shooters. And Coach will probably build the defense from the perimeter spots, and shooters back to the defensive situation. Screens, trapping, doubling the post, pindowns and skip passes.

I think his pressure will come not only in a full court trap, 3/4, and in half court. And he may have 4 or more versions of the trap. You cannot be timid in applying pressure, he used the word aggressive. That will leave a player unguarded. The trap must make that pass impossible, and the rotations to recovery are the key.

I am excited to see a true motion offense combined with pressure defense.

I hope we press and trap, I've always loved that about Rick Pitino's teams.

I like that he changes up half-court defenses routinely. You have to keep the other team off balance.
