One song in the University's catalog that doesn't get nearly as much attention as it ought to is "Hail Minnesota!" In this video, I've tried to rectify that.

Enjoy!

very true and nice work!

there is something very dignified about the older U of M songs when sung in a classic style that i really enjoy.

I really like Hail Minnesota, and would like to see played/sang instead more often of the rouser all of the time.

The team will form in front of the band and student section after every game to sing Hlail Minnesota. I encourage everyone to stick around for 5 minutes after the game and join them. I can't sing a lick, but I will be there supporting the players and the school in this.:clap::clap:

It is a much better song than Wisconsin's "Varsity" - that one makes me cringe

A link the the UM band and its sounds. I love the college marches and wish the band would play them at half rather than the "stuff"/show tunes that add little or no atmosphere.

I like Varsity and envy the Becky fans who really get into it, unlike Hail Minnesota and the Gopher fans.

Can any provide me with a download of Minnesota marches that I can burn on my laptop.

GopherRock, you do, indeed, ROCK! This is an awesome post and highlights one thing most folks don't know about Hail, Minnesota--the beautiful lyrics in the second verse. Bravo!

I laughed because they are on the link you provided.

Here is a direct link to the page:

(you will have to right-click the MP3 links and save them to your computer, but it is legal and free)

I highly suggest buying "Are You Ready?", "Maroon and Gold Live", and the "Songs of Minnesota" CDs that are out - all great cuts of our school songs and the band.

The latest indoor concert CD has a vocal version of "Hail Minnesota!" sung by the band in the Northrop lobby (GREAT natural acoustics). Worth buying the CD just for that. Gives me chills.

I hear "Hail Minnesota" all the time. It is played on the field, during the pregame show outside the stadium, etc. etc.

GopherRock - love the stuff, but FYI the notice at the end does nothing for any copyright issues that may be there :).

While you have some potential arguments (fair use for one) to support your work, I would say don't be surprised if someone sends a notice to Google and it disappears one day.

or "on wisconsin" - which was originally called "on minnesota". i believe they got it as a throw away song that the university of minnesota did not want. bunch of dumpster divers. ;)
