Hageman on Claeys: "I am the strength and he is the brains of the operation"

Great quote from Hageman:

@GopherFootball: . @Rashedehageman with high praise for Coach Claeys. "I am the strength and he is the brains of the operation" #Gophers

Go Gophers!!

@spacejace27: #Gophers DL Ra'Shede Hageman on South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney "It's not like I want to be like him. I want to be better than him."

Go Gophers!!

I not only think Claeys is smart but I like him as a coach for another reason.

In the bowl game, Claeys called an all out blitz. There was no one in the center of the field. The Gopher corner should have jammed the receiver on the play to prevent a quick slant over the middle but the Gopher corner didn't jam the receiver, the slant was open, the receiver caught it and the rest is history. The blitz came within a fraction of a second of working. If the receiver had been jammed it is likely the Gophers would have won the game.

Who was to blame? We have had multiple coaches who would have blamed the corner. Claeys simply said "I called the wrong defense. I should have had someone in the center of the field" Well, yes, but that was not the whole story. Claeys didn't drop even the tiniest hint that anyone other than himself was to blame.

I hated that call. Hats off to him for taking full blame though, because the corner definitely could've done a better job.

I loved that call. We have to take some chances to win big games. That one didn't work out due to a missed jam, but it was the right call IMO.

As we get better, more experienced players at skill positions those misses will be fewer and big plays for us will be more common.

We have had too many coaches in the last 60 years that try not to lose games...I love that Kill & Co are working to win games.

Had Shabazz just held onto the ball a play or two earlier it wouldn't have come to pass. They were in a similar situation at the end of the first half. I think it was fourth and goal with may 1/2 minute left and they went all out blitz and Hageman just missed taking Doege down. That would have been the difference right there too. We were so close in that game. What makes it cool for this year is that T Tech was senior laden and we were playing mostly sophemores and a couple two three juniors and seniors respectively. Now we have a team heavy on juniors and experienced sophemores. I firmly believe that if our play action passing game comes together we will win more than games than last year.

It was a ballsy call. We haven't had coaches willing to do that for a long time. Mason knew he couldn't survive the heat that would follow. Brewster...well, he was Brewster. Kill also frequently goes for it on 4th down. There are a lot of ways this team has been willing to lose a game bigger in order to try for a chance for a victory. It's all about attitude and I for one, am pleased with it.

Everett withers played a more aggressive defense than the current staff does

I loved Murray Warmath but he once punted on SECOND DOWN (at the end of a quarter) so the punter would have the wind at his back.
Cal Stoll was big on the draw play on 3rd and long. Mason loved sitting on a lead (hello, the Michigan game).
