If there is any coaching turnover, we should pony up whatever it takes to get this guy as an assistant and likely heir to Tubby. Steve Forbes, head coach of Northwest Florida Community College.

Upon seeing the title of this thread, I thought it would be about how some zero star recruit from Minnesota is way better than the more highly sought after out-of-state recruit we're going after instead.

Sorry, if it were titled appropriately, nobody would read it. Just a guy who has consistently recruited at an obscenely higher level than he should for many years. Heck of a coach too.

It looks like that college is a JuCo, is that correct? I'm trying to find stuff about their recruiting, but it's hard to come up with much, how did you happen across his name?

I used to live close to NWFCC, which used to be Okaloosa-Walton CC, so I've loosely followed them. He's about 57-4 in his two years there, attracting serious top talent, including current #1 Juco Chris Jones (Louisville bound, former TN commit). Only reason he is there is the fact that he was an assistant to Bruce Pearl at TN (Pearl exonerates him and takes full blame). Great recruiter and great coach who would likely be open to a BCS opportunity with a future.

Great idea balds!

Here's an article with a bit more on Forbes: http://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2012/feb/24/mike-strange-steve-forbes-finds-quality-of-life/

The concern for me is his "show cause" suspension and how that will fly with Norwood Teague. I know Forbes would have ZERO chance of being hired under Maturi, but I hope Teague would be a bit more open to a proven recruiter like Forbes.

The other issue is whether or not Forbes would come to Minnesota under the current conditions. I don't think we are going to get a guy with solid options to come coach here if it looks like next year could be the last year for Tubby.

I agree. We need to sell Forbes (or a guy like him) that it will be Tubby's final year(S) (which it most certainly is) and that he would have a big chance to transition into HC.
I hope that we wouldn't exclude a coach like Jimmy Williams again.

Loved flying into Eglin AFB when my parents would spend time in Destin. Seeing the SR-71 Blackbird on static display, hearing the planes break the sound barrier ripping down the coastline. Great area.

You missed the glory days when they were testing the "bunker busters" they employed in the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. The bombs that could dig a mile hole in the ground made quite the sound while being tested.

Wow...when was that? Sounds incredible. Also always loved visiting the Naval Aviation museum in Pensacola. Really impressive.

Looking forward to the FCSAA/NJCAA Region VIII tourney this week...

Forbes & NW Florida State have a big rematch vs Palm Beach State (Kevin Thomas). PBS & Chipola (STUD Chris Thomas, Brew Town's Cinmeon Bowers, etc.) are the only two teams to beat NW Florida State this season.
