We're about to find out what this team is made of real quick. The loss to Purdue was certainly tough to swallow, but no one expected the Gophers to push a top five team to the brink (with or without Hummel). If Minnesota comes back with intensity and hangs tough with Illinois on the road, I will be VERY pleased. The Gophs don't even have to win (since they're probably not in the NCAAs anyways) for something positive to come out the Illinois game. Just stay tough and give yourself a chance. That would indicate to me that the team put the heart-breaking defeat behind them. Obviously if Minnesota comes out flat and gets run out of the gym, it's not a good sign. Losses like the one to Purdue can easily send a team into a tailspin. I think if Minnesota falls to Illinois by 10-20 points, they'll probably lose to Michigan and Iowa too.
I think it's set-in to everyone that the only way for this team to make it to the Big Dance would be to win the three remaining regular season games and win two games in the Big Ten Tournament. A loss to Illinois 100 percent means the Gophers have to win the conference tournament to qualify, and that would be some kind of miracle.
