Thank you for your service.

29 seasons. Only surpassed in North American Pro Sports by Mack/A's, Halas/Bears & McGraw/Giants. Tied with other legends, Landry/Cowboys & Lambeau/Packers.

PTI mentioned that 23 of his former players & assistants have been Head Coaches in the NBA or WNBA.

Job well done.

Didn’t he invent the Hack-a-Shaw? Especially in the first minute of the game?

A real class act! Especially towards reporters. Just a wonderful person. Always so respectful during in game interviews.

The way I remember it, Pop had someone foul Shaq like a second after the opening tap. Shaq was completely befuddled with a "WTF!?!?" reaction. The camera's then cut to Pop & Spurs bench who were all just laughing their butts off.

It has been a set up. Shaq got the joke too.

A combination of Pops and RC Buford made San Antonio the best run organization in NBA if not pro sports. Congrats to him on a well-earned retirement.

So did draft lottery luck.

Obviously did all kinds of great things, but he was the driving force behind all the load management nonsense that's practiced by lots of teams.

‘I can’t understand what yer saying with food in your mouth.’ Danny B. Never lets a person live down their mistakes. He is a tiger!

David Robinson and Tim Duncan required a lot of thought! LOL
Sam Bowie, picked stead of Mars Blackmon, says hey and there are a litany of overall first pick flops as well Melvin!!

Including -

Anthony Bennett
Kwame Brown
Michael Olowokandi

Agree that what turns out obvious isn't always at the time but Duncan would have been the consensus number one pick his last two seasons.

The Admiral was Drafted #1 in 1987 which was the season before Pop joined the Spurs as an Assistant Coach.

It was a gutsy pick in some respect by the Spurs because he had to fulfill 2 years of Military Service, having gone to Navy. Rookie season was not until 1989-90.

Some other pretty good talent in the 1987 Draft.
