per Doyel:

The dispatches from Purdue and Indiana have been staggering and unending, one explosion of big basketball news after another.

Purdue announces 7-foot center A.J. Hammons will return for his senior season. Indiana counters: All three of its underclassmen on the NBA's radar — most notably point guard Yogi Ferrell, but also wings Troy Williams and James Blackmon Jr. — are coming back.

Purdue adds one of the best grad transfers available at point guard, senior Johnny Hill from Texas-Arlington.

Indiana signs McDonald's All American center Thomas Bryant.

Purdue signs an even higher-rated McDonald's All American big man, Fort Wayne Homestead's Caleb Swanigan.

Indiana beefs up its front court with grad transfer Max Bielfeldt of Michigan.

All of this has happened since April, and I had to know what the coaches involved think. Not so much about their own team, but the other one. Purdue and Indiana have bigger fish to fry than each other, but let's be real: These guys know. I mean, they know. Indiana's Tom Crean knows he needs to beat Purdue, knows it doesn't sit well with IU fans that Purdue swept the season series last year. Purdue's Matt Painter knows he needs to beat Indiana, knows it's the only way to puncture the perception that this state is all about Indiana, then everyone else.
