Great Reusse column on his lifelong fandom of our Gophers!

Taking joy in other people's pain would be a terrible quality, indeed.

I'll keep my ears up, but I haven't noticed him do that. Was there some prominent injuries or firings that he reveled in? Assume positive intent from me please, I'm not being sarcastic or trying to bait you in any way.
Maybe pain was the wrong word, schadenfreude probably would have been more appropriate.

It's pretty well known that he'll post stuff just to "stir the pot" and he sits back and enjoys people getting upset with him. I've never met anyone who exhibits that quality that I like as a person.

I typically just stay away from posts about him. I get that some people enjoy his writing, and that's just fine, enjoy away. I am not one of those people. But I'm also not going to say that he's turned a corner by writing a single article simply for the fact that is does not crap all over the Gophers.

He jabs the Gooherhole haters occasionally, just for fun. And it never fails to arouse the faithful.

Reusse is a great writer and a lifelong Gopher fan. He just doesn't suffer fools lightly, nor accept mediocrity or worse without calling it such.

The USAF post above nailed the situation. Patrick is a great writer and storyteller. Patrick lalways loved Gopher Football and Basketball. There were expectations.

Pat is also a comedian, and loves joking around. Pat was great on the radio, a self deprecating host who laughed a lot. Most of what Pat has put out over the years has proven to be correct with a lot of humor mixed in.

Pat is just a bit too much in the "grey area' for some people to figure out. If Pat makes you angry, look deeper into yourself.

Reusse was right to be displeased with the dismantling of Gopher greatness.
Yes, but I disagree with how he often used his talents. I think he thought that if he pummeled Gopher athletics he might cause them to make changes. I think the better tactic would be report on the positives, but don’t sugarcoat the bad. Report on the things we as fans would not know without the digging only a reporter can do. Player exposès, coaching decisions, team strengths and weaknesses. The more stories he could tell, more people would go to games, which back in the day was the money maker for athletics. But Pat was true to himself and shared many great articles. However, he had many turkeys too. 😉

Roger that - schadenfreude is such a wonderful term! I get where you are coming from - he is a polarizing figure. I do admire that he's remained active and passionate to this day. So many folks are waiting to die, and he doesn't seem to be one of them.

Looks like Fulda's finest couldn't quite cut it academically out of the gate. Probably a good thing looking back over his coming 80 years.

Good read and explains a lot. He has broken several Dink-O-Meters over the years but ran a new check for this article...

Billds will be there that Friday night. Maybe Ole Patrick could be the game's "Do The Gopher" special guest...

Start working on it Mr. Fleck and Mr. Coyle...

Follow-up thought...more cheers than boos?
Oh, that would be great!

I'm probably in the minority but I actually enjoyed him a little when he was on Garage Logic. Have never liked his writing. His writing is either something I don't care about (town ball) or a shot at the Gophers.

Yep. 1500 was a different animal in those days and Joe and Pat would go at it to produce some very good radio.

Also, Don Vogel R.I.P.

Reusse never knelt at the altar of KFAN.
Can't stand KFAN - this is a solid take.
Dan B is about the only personality I can handle, even though he stretches sentences out 6x longer than needed. Common hasn't done anything new in a decade, the morning show is an insult to humanity, and Paul Allen is absolutely insufferable.
All my subjective opinion - YMMV.

Picked my son up at day care and had 1500 on. My son said "why would you let a blind man drive you home?"
True story.

Tommy Mischke first showed up in TC radio and media in a bit with The Round Mound of Sound as a homeless guy living in a dumpster somewhere in Minneapolis. Basically Don did a series of interviews where Mischke explained the benefits of dumpster life to a very straight playing Vogel.

This went on for several afternoons and I took the bait and thought it was real.

They eventually couldn't keep it straight even on radio and the bit was up. However this one felt like a chump for the ages as they pulled it off like a 60 Minutes or NPR piece. Priceless.

Tommy of course eventually had an AM-1500 gig on to 'CCO and still shows up as a product spokesman on the radio.

It was a sad day when Don succumbed to cancer. Damn good radio in those days.

Give me Tommy and give me Don and I am a happy man. My true feeling are there has never been a better show than Tommy at night at KSTP. Dont want to go into it but he was never happy at CCO.
