MINNESOTA 83, UCLA 63: Bruins see season fall into Gopher hole, lose in NCAA second-round game

Go Gophers!!

Wow. Looks like the Minneapolis writers are not the only ones that don't like their home town team's coach. UCLA shot very poorly - looked like their youth and lack of depth caught up to them. The barrage of fouls took out their second double digit scorer. UCLA players looked gassed. Don't get me wrong, Gophers were the better team and obviously deserved to win but it was not all Howland's fault (IMO).

Minnesota outmuscles UCLA in 83-63 rout at NCAAs

UCLA looked disjointed on offense and freshman Shabazz Muhammad, expected to leave for the NBA, missed all seven of his shots in the first half. Muhammad finished with 20 points, but his teammates often looked for other options and most of his scoring came in a desperate rally that never really got close.

"I thought we were prepared," Muhammad said. "They came out and jumped on us early and they really played well."

It's nice to the have the Pac-12 co-champ be a get well for a tied for 7th place B1G team! Seriously, you are correct. UCLA mailed it in last night and that was not the coach's doing. The idiot who trashed the Gophers in per-game presser provides fule to an under achieving team and he is a junior. Their star is on his way to the NBA and played the first half like he didn't care, and they are without one of their best players. Certainly favorable to us, but this team quit on Howland, and that should be on them and not the coach.

I don't like the local frenzy about coaching here, but we are certainly not trend setters, either. College basketball is getting out of control. The first order of business is working with the NBA to get rid of one and dones. That might return some sanity to the "win now or be fired" mobs that so easily take over.

UCLA certainly had some things working against them last night but let's not discount the fact they ran into a buzzsaw in the Gophers. The team they faced last night is the version of Minnesota that can play with and beat anyone in this tournament field.

True, but I am from Minnesota and can see the only reason we win is because the other team messed up!
