In Johnson’s post game yesterday he shared that Grove is redshirting. Definitely more rare in today’s free agency landscape, but hope it works out for him and us down the road.

I don’t see it working out that great. He’s probably not a Big Ten player tbh

I tend to agree. Saw him twice in HS and once in AAU and he rarely stood out and definitely is not a BT level athlete. Hope I’m wrong.

We lose ten guys thru graduation and if we lose another five to the transfer portal, we can find a spot for him.

At his size I thought that being athletic was his biggest asset. He's got a long way to go but I really like his possibilities. In the first exhibition game he went up above rim to reject the shot of one of Bemidji players driving to the basket. He's not going to stand out because of his basketball skills or lack of skills but he's got potential. I thought the one thing about Grove and Assuma was that their raw athleticism was at the B1G level more so than some of the others.

Going above the rim when you’re 6’9 isn’t athletic
It’s raising your arms.

Makes sense. On a team with this much experience it was going to be tough for him to find minutes anyway. Let him redshirt, develop, and hopefully be ready to fill one of the many many opening there will be on the roster next year.

I think he can be a serviceable player. Do the small things, hustle, dirty work under the boards, and provide energy. He's not going to give you 20 and 20, but he'll put in the work to get better, unlike our Stetson guy.

Will anyone be surprised if he transfers? Whoever is coach next year will need to bring in practically a whole new rotation from the portal. and presumably that will include players who have been productive at some other level. IOW, he'll most likely be recruited over. But you never know what's in the mind of the kid - I'm shocked Betts is still here.

If he's a P5 player, it's probably best for him to prove it at a lower level where he'll get PT. That would be the advice I'd give a lot of marginal HS kids. Not many are P5 rotation-ready in this era.
