Grantland: Austin Hollins Rises in 'The Moment,' Minnesota Beats Illinois

Wow great article! Love the love this team is getting. Well deserved!

The play by Austin from 0:40 - 0:50 is fantastic. He covered a lot of ground to get that steal.

Yes, just great. Really breaks down a critical play in a well written fashion. Thanks, Bleed. Don't know how many things I would miss that I was interested in if it wasn't for you.

I think he hit it right on the head in the opening paragraph, "I may be showing my bias...". The game is 40 minutes long. We won not just because of that play but because we did what those advanced metrics he dismisses said we did; we were more efficient.

Haha, check out the gigantic flop by Dre Hollins at :57. The steal after that and the 5 point flagrant possession were also the key.

Kinda diminishes the potential 7-8 point andre swing, but nice to get the press.

Personally I thought that it was the play of the game. If Austin doesn't hustle to get back there, he throws it to him for what could have been a lead-gaining three point shot. Instead, they turn it over and we get a dunk on the other end, crowd shuts up, then they mess up again. Obviously the following play had even more impact score-wise as we got 5 points on that possession I believe, but man, if he gets that three up, with all that momentum flowing, likely a clean look, you might be looking at a different set of circumstances in that 2nd half.

It goes without saying though, there was far more than just that play that contributed to the victory.

Did you notice Abrams throwing his hands up at 1:01, when Andre tips the ball? Totally gave up on the play, and it's possible with some hustle that he could have done something on the other end. Bet Groce will see that too.

No. 12 lllinois (14-3, 1-2 Big Ten) could not stop its problems from hemorrhaging as physical No. 8 Minnesota (15-1, 3-0) bloodied them with an 84-67 victory Wednesday night at Assembly Hall.

The combination of muscle and skill were too much for the Illini.

Thanks for sharing these links. I loved when Clem's teams would just bully people around the court and Izzo has often had that type of team at MSU. It's a great (and rare) mix when you can both be physical and athletic as basketball team.
