Game Prep.......Air Force is not the easiest of teams to prepare for as they brought in the triple option offense that we rarely, if ever see. They are a talented team that is used to taking out
bigger, stronger teams and the line on the game went from the Gophers favored by 7 down
to just 3.5 so there were many people around the country that believed Air Force would either
keep it very close or win outright. Also, the staff had to deal with all the issues of playing in the
new stadium and getting the team focused on football. I thought the Gophers came out of the starting gate fired up and played intense football, especially the defense. The defense in particular was well prepared to stop their offense. Our offense could not move the ball much at
all in the first half.

Game Prep -- A-

Adjustments..........The play that Air Force ran on us early that was working was the pitch to the outside and I thought the staff adjusted very well to stuff that as the game went on. Although the offense looked sluggish at first, they moved the ball down the stretch when they had to and got the job done. Not too many people are talking about it, but Cosgrove came in as a huge question mark and his defense has turned in two very nice performances so far.

Adjustments -- A

Motivation.........If Brewster could not get the team motivated before playing in the brand new stadium in front of a jacked up crowd, then he shouldn't be coaching college football. Although it was probably a fairly easy task, the effort was again very good.

Motivation grade -- A

Stupid penalties/Mistakes.......Again, 8 penalties for 86 yards including another personal foul penalty as well as other stupid penalties really hurt this team in this game. A few times we had some nice drives going and all of a sudden we were faced with a 2nd and 25 situation that we could not get out of and had tp punt. This continues to be a big problem that needs to be worked on.

Grade -- C-

Clock Management........I can't find too many faults here, but I liked how they used the clock toward the end of the game. Others might find some faults, but unless someone talks me out of it,
I will go with:

Grade -- B+

I am still not too happy with our offense which is still a work in progress and is still not near where Glen Mason's teams were during their peak. We can't run the ball nearly as effectively as those teams, but our passing is looking a little better and that is a good sign. Our defense simply has better athletes and more depth and skill than Mason's and that is the primary reason for our early success.

Overall coaching grade for week 2 --- 3.33 or B+
Overall coaching grade for week 1 --- 2.71

Season grade so far averages out to 3.02 and I think this is probably a better grade than I would have given Brewster in either of the first two seasons.
