per Greder:
Gophers tight end Brandon Lingen fired off the line of scrimmage Friday evening and drove linebacker Thomas Barber to the turf during Minnesota’s fourth practice of fall camp. Barber touched Lingen’s gold helmet in a quick congratulations after the play.
Amid a grueling month-long camp ahead of the season opener Aug. 31, that snap will likely be forgotten in the plethora of plays. But after a frustrating 2016 season, Lingen is savoring a return to full health.
“It’s incredible,” said the senior from Wayzata. “It’s been a long year, a little under a year now and it’s a surreal feeling to be able to get out here and be able to play football again.”
In 2016, Lingen was rehabbing a torn labrum and missed the season opener against Oregon State. He made his season debut against Indiana State in Week 2 and broke his collarbone when he hit the turf during the third quarter.
“It’s so exciting, I’m back and I’m feeling healthy,” Lingen said of the Sycamores game. “I’m good to go, let’s keep playing. Then another setback.”
