Today's Sun Bowl is the 75th Anniversary game of the southwestern classic. The Sun Bowl is the second oldest bowl game; second to the Rose Bowl.

Two former Gopher players have been named to the Sun Bowl's all-time all-star team (75 players):
DB Tyrone Carter, 1999
C Ben Hamilton, 1999

The 25th Great Moment listed of the Sun Bowl was the winning field goal by Rhys "Winston" Lloyd of 42 yards with 21 seconds remaining. Gophers defeated Oregon 31-30.

The 17th largest crowd in the Sun Bowl stadium occurred in 2003 game between Minnesota and Oregon, 49,864.
