Gophers' season-opening opponent (Wofford) ranked #50 by TSN

We need to pound the ball inside. The biggest starters for Wofford are 6'6" and about 220 or less. Iverson, Sampson, Mbakwe should dominate...doesnt mean they will. If we dominate the inside then the passes going in should come back out for open 3's. We must start inside out. Wofford is a quality team that won't make mistakes. But they are a donut team unless one of the freshmen bigs pans out at center.

Relax. They're not going to lose to Wofford. Tubby will have the team well-prepared, mentally and physically. Trevor will dominate the game in the low post, Blake will keep the defenses from sagging, and solid defense in the final 5 minutes will propel the Gophers to victory. This is a good team for an opening game, but a team they'll handle.

I don't think anyone here has predicted a Gopher loss vs. Wofford. Just pointing out that the opener may be a little more taxing than what we're accustomed to, which is fine by me. Perhaps even more drama than what the average Joe Public thinks when he here's the name "Wofford".

Exactly...against these quality mid-major teams we must punish them with our size. I also think our perimeter defense will be key, as these types of teams are usually guard lead-- having Nolen back will be very big in that regard.

Can we just start the season already?

Wofford has three Minnesota players (guards Cameron Rundles and Jamar Diggs from DeLaSalle , and F/C Noah Dahlman from Brahahm). These guys would like nothing more than to come into the Barn and knock off the hometown team. I'm not saying the Gophers will lose, but this is a big game for Wofford. I expect it to be close throughout. Wofford also recently got a commit from another Minnesota player, Lucas Brown, who plays at Roseville HS.

If I were going to pick a sleeper mid-major, I'd go with Murray State, or if they don't count as a sleeper, then the Ohio Bobcats (I'm presuming the MWC doesn't qualify for mid-major status here). Those two both won NCAA tourney games last year, and both return many of their key players and add some new guys. Wofford is not far behind those two, but I think definitely behind those two. Remember, Wisconsin was not that good at the end of last season - got drilled in BTT vs. Illinois (last-ditch comeback effort made the score look more competitive than the game actually was), and then got blown out by Cornell out of the Ivy league - those are the games the Wofford game was sandwiched between for Wisconsin. Wisconsin certainly was not playing great basketball when they played Wofford last season - just because Wofford could hang with Wisconsin then doesn't mean they'll hang with the Gophers in the Barn.

Did all of the Wofford Minnesota kids play in Howard Pulley league? Hope the Gophers don't get overconfident based on what they saw in the HP.

Good to play two good teams (Wofford and Siena) prior to Puerto Rico. The early season blowouts last year did not help prepare the team for Anaheim. Not ready to play Portland - thinking it would be easy,

This thread isn't about who you think is going to be the best mid-major. It's about the fact that we play Wofford.

Just because Wisconsin wasn't good in March (are they EVER?) doesn't mean that Wofford isn't a good team. Plus their best players are from Minnesota so they'll have added incentive for a good showing.

Oh, and thanks for reminding us that Cornell is in the Ivy League. Here I was thinking it was in the Patriot League or MAC.

Rundles and Diggs played on the same Pulley team this summer - I believe their team made the finals and lost to Khalid El-Amin's team. Most of the Gophers know the Minnesota players from Wofford well - I doubt they will be overlooking them.
