Needless to say this schedule is going to be loaded - especailly if they're able to win their first game in the Bahamas. If the Gophs are able to avoid scheduling RPI anchors as well as they did last year, SOS will be one factor squarly in their favor on selection (seeding:eek:) day.

Update: SDSU Jackrabbits will visit The Barn on December 4

South Dakota State game has been confirmed as Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Update: Gophers vs. USC (Dec. 8)

Have confirmed the Gophers will play at USC on Saturday, Dec. 8. (schedule has been updated above) Look for this game to be televised on FSN and/or the new Pac 12 Network.

Hodger, if we draw a high-major team in the Battle 4 Atlantis in the first round, that puts us as having up to 5 games on the road/neutral sites against high-major conference teams. How many Big Ten schools would have that on their schedule this year?

Go Gophers!!

Bleed, 5 (even 4) is a good number of BCS opponents to end up having on your schedule, let alone all 5 of 'em being on the road. That makes it likely the Gophers' nonconference SOS will not be a problem (if we inexcusably end up on the bubble) at the end of 2012-13, though ideally it would be nice for season-ticket holders to have at least 1 or maybe even 2 such games at home every season.

Using last season as a guide, Michigan played 5 nonconference games vs. BCS opponents (2 road, 2 neutral, 1 home); Northwestern (2 neutral, 1 road, 1 home), Ohio State (2 road, 2 home) and Penn State (2 neutral, 1 road, 1 home) played 4; Indiana, Michigan State, the Gophers and Nebraska played 3; and Illinois, Iowa, Purdue and Wisconsin played 2.

And of course, there were some reputable and quality mid/high major programs (non-BCS) in there that I excluded:

Illinois -- Gonzaga, UNLV
Indiana -- Butler
Iowa -- Creighton
Michigan -- Memphis
Michigan State -- Gonzaga
Nebraska -- Creighton
Northwestern -- Creighton
Purdue -- Butler, Temple, Xavier
Wisconsin -- BYU, UNLV

The rumor going around the chat boards of the Battle 4 Atlantis participants is that between the Gophers and Northern Iowa, one of 'em will play Duke and the other one will play Louisville. I take that to mean the Gophers are being viewed as the #7 seed and UNI as the #8 seed, with the Dukies and Louisville as the top 2 seeds. If they seed the tournament -- I don't know if they do -- I'd guess Louisville will be the favorite, meaning the #7 Gophers would likely get #2 Duke.

Of course, that assumes the Gophers are seeded behind VCU and Memphis, the only other teams perhaps we could be seeded ahead of. It's safe to assume we'd be seeded behind Louisville, Duke, Mizzou and Stanford.

Per Sid (6/16):
The Gophers basketball team will open the 2012-13 season facing American University on Nov. 9. Then go to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament on Nov. 22-24. They could play host to either Western Michigan or Texas A&M at home on a date to be set as an extra game because they are playing in that tournament, as per an NCAA rule. They play at Florida State -- ranked No. 15 at the end of last season -- with little rest on Nov. 27. They will also face South Dakota State, ranked No. 42 in the RPI last year, on Dec. 4, North Dakota State (150 RPI ranking) on Dec. 11, and will play at Southern California in December.
