Following a 52-10 win over Maryland, Minnesota is now ranked No. 13 in the latest AP Top 25 rankings. This is the program's highest ranking in the poll since 2004 (No. 13).

The last time Minnesota was ranked this high, they finished 7-5 and defeated Alabama (20-16) in the Music City Bowl.

Not only are the Gophers rising in the Top 25, but they also jumped in Bill Connelly's S&P-plus ratings. After sitting at No. 15 last week, they moved up three spots to No. 12. The undefeated showdown against Penn State (No. 7 in S&P-plus) will feature two teams in the top 12 of this metric. Last week, I explained what this data can tell us about future performance.

I'll have more coverage in the next two weeks, including an extensive preview of the biggest Gopher football game in recent memory.

Let's hope this year's #13 ranking also ends with a victory over Alabama.
