Gophers Number 24 in USA Today Poll and ESPN

Illinois will be as pesky as Purdue - Galloping Ghost tribute, new uniforms, coach on hot seat. Expect a battle.

I'd be surprised if Illinois makes this a game. Beckman is a dip. They are hanging their hopes on quarterback-by-committee approach, which almost never works, to duplicate what Purdue did against the Gophers in the first half. And the Gophers' so-called one-dimensional offense will be fine against that defense.

Realise this is pure speculation but, if we had played a non-conference cup cake game instead of TCU, and were currently 7-0, would we be in the top 10?

P.S - not saying playing TCU was a bad thing - was probably a strong catalyst for improvement.

I belive going on the road and playing a quality opponent will make you better in the long run win or lose. Maybe top 20 gophers never get any respect football or basketball.

No way. Our loss wasn't keeping us out of the top 25 or making us he ranked lower . It's the quality of the opponents we've beaten, which isn't strong. We'd be a handful of spots higher than we are, but don't think top 20 even.

I bet we'd be somewhere between 15th and 10th. Consider that we were at about 35th before the TCU loss and that we completely dropped out of receiving votes for the next two weeks before receiving just three after beating Michigan. I think we probably would have snuck in after this game......if you are willing to assume that we move up a few spots each week.

Or North Carolina.
