The North Florida men's basketball web site indicates UNF will play the Gophers at Williams Arena on Dec. 1. The Ospreys finished with a RPI of #179 in 2011-12 after finishing tied for 4th (10-8) in the Atlantic Sun. The Ospreys' OOC schedule should be beneficial to the Gophers, with a slate that also includes games @ Memphis, Kansas State, Florida State, Pitt and Colorado State.

That leaves 1 or 2 Gophers OOC games TBD. Still haven't seen anything about a potential "marquee" neutral-court game reportedly (per Doogie) slated for the week of Nov. 12.

Final 2011-12 RPI is noted in parentheses.

Lots to like on our Non Conference Schedule (not addressing home v away debate). Another boost, USC will likely finish with a RPI 150 spots or more better than they did last year.

Man... that looks like a solid non-conf sked. They had a decent one last year too... pretty experienced team. Shouldn't* be a problem for MN and N Fla lacks size, but they've got some vets & a good coach. Shoot well and they've got a chance.

Putting aside my usual gripes about the home schedule (that's for another time), I like the overall schedule so far, too. What I like (again, so far) is that we're avoiding the RPI killers. Our only RPI killer so far is USC, but as Rouser pointed out it's highly, highly unlikely the Trojans will be that bad again in 2012-13. In fact, I'd guess USC will end up in the top 50-100 range along with the likes of a Florida State, a South Dakota State and maybe a Richmond. To this point I don't think we've scheduled any teams that are expected to be out & out dregs.

We've also scheduled some teams that usually "schedule up" outside conference play, or are doing so this season: Richmond, North Florida (as GW mentioned), Florida State, USC & maybe even Lafayette. And obviously we'll benefit from Duke's schedule, and either Memphis or VCU's, as well. Every little bit helps.

Isn't USC's poor RPI largely the result of the Pac 12 as a whole just plain sucking last year?

That was certainly a big part of it, as they had a lot of bad losses within the Pac 12 and a couple other ones (Cal Poly & Nebraska) early on. At worst I'd expect USC to be in the 100-125 range this season. And certainly the Pac 12 should be a lot better this season.

Congratulations SS, Esposito reads Gopher Hole and likes your comment.

Quote on Gopher Hole I like "I like the overall schedule so far, too. What I like is that we're avoiding the RPI killers."

I'll count that as my 5 seconds of fame.

I actually had a chance to meet Joe E. He's a great guy. We just don't always see eye to eye on the (home) schedule!

I think you have a friend SS. :)

Here was Joe's tweet:

Like It, call me..."I actually had a chance to meet Joe E. He's a great guy. We just don't always see eye to eye on the (home) schedule!"

Get signed up on twitter and give him a call.

My Twitter days were brief. Tried it for about a week, and it wasn't my thing. If I were on Twitter certainly his account is one of the ones I would follow.

Joe E., please try scheduling some home and homes against BCS schools. It shouldn't be as big of an issue now that "the streak" is over.
