Gophers lose recruiting battle to Purdue for 7-foot Oak Hill center A.J. Hammons, according to Rivals.com.

Disappointing but I never got the feeling we were going to land him. Move on to the next I suppose.

Who's the next? Maybe Johnny can tell us something? We obviously need a big man in this year's class. We've missed out on a few guys now. So do we offer a guy like Cinmeon Bowers now? Bowers has offers from Maryland and DePaul. I know we're still going after Chance Allen, Phillip Nolan (don't know how much of a chance we have), and Charles Buggs. But what if we don't get any of those 3? I really don't want us to sign some fringe prospects like we have the last couple of years after swinging and missing on a few prospects.

Cinmeon Bowers isn't going to be on Tubby's radar. Next option is probably Matt Wilms unless someone else has surfaced on their radar.

Are those two mn big guys 2012? Shanks and voss I think the names are? Can't remember. Ryan james was raving about one of them recently.

James was raving about Voss. Apparently at the Pump and Run showcase he was stepping out and hitting some 3s. However i read some tweets that said he was class of 2013? Since then i havent been sure what class he was. At this point I bet Matt Wilms gets and offer and if that misses look for Shanks or Voss, if he is 2012, to get an offer.

I like both Willms and Nolan. Willms could be pretty interesting after a red shirt year, he moves well for a tall guy.

Missing out on Hammons is disappointing considering it was reported that the Gophers recruited him harder than any other program this Summer. On the other hand, we badly need to make this open scholarship count and I saw Hammons as a project. Hopefully, Tubby pulls something out of his hat because we've lost quite a few recruiting battles over the past few classes.

Okay, thanks!

I wasn't sure what class they were.

AJ Hammons can play. I think he'll be playing in the NBA in a two years. He's probably getting a lot more playing time at Purdue compared to Minnesota but I like his game a lot.

Hindsight is 20/20, but Hammonds looks pretty good, IMO...
