Fellow gophers basketball fans,
As a very infrequent poster & a very heavy "lurker" I would just like to point out that it's A LOT more fun to read the threads now about the men's team with the new coaching change ...
Having been a pretty decent basketball player all the way up through the beginning college level until I blew my knee out, a coach at levels all the way from early elementary school all the way up through high school, including summer basketball camp work, refereeing all the way up to junior varsity games, as well as being an educator with a Master's degree, I consider myself kind of an expert on coaching & working with young people ...
Anyways, it all boils down to for me whether I'm entertained or not watching the game ...
I also realize that once you reach a certain level, it becomes a philosophy of how you're gonna lead the show and it sort of boils down to in the long run, if you're gonna be a pretty decent coach you will consistently have a bunch of great kids, mediocre kids, & lousy kids, but your coaching will eventually come through one way or another .... positive or negative ....
It's really not about just winning and losing, but how are you gonna develop the people to become better not only as athletes but also citizens ....
Personally, I do know that some of my best coaching days were with my poorest bunch of athletes, but overall we had a good year ...
And also, I also know that sometimes when we had a great bunch of athletes, my coaching didn't make a big difference. I just tried to put them on on the floor so they didn't mess it up.
So if anybody read through this long diatribe, just thought I'd throw my thoughts out there and say it's VERY refreshing with the optimism and hope that is now out there!
Go Gophers!!!!
