MINNEAPOLIS - Fresh off its bye week, the eighth-ranked Minnesota men's hockey team puts the finishing touches on the 2023-24 regular season March 1-2. The Golden Gophers host No. 16 Michigan in a Big Ten Conference series at 3M Arena at Mariucci sponsored by Flint Hills Resources.

Both games will be shown live on Big Ten Network starting at 7:30 p.m. along with audio coverage on the Gopher Radio Network 1130 KTLK-AM/103.5 FM.

It'll be a Maroon Out at 3M Arena at Mariucci Friday, before a special day Saturday. Minnesota honors the 50th anniversary of its 1974 NCAA championship team during an in-game ceremony and closes the day by celebrating four members of the senior class.

POSTSEASON OUTLOOK
The Gophers have already clinched home ice for the first round and will host the quarterfinals of the 2024 Big Ten Conference tournament, an event they last won in 2021. The official matchups will be determined at the conclusion of this weekend's action as Minnesota and Michigan battle for the No. 3 and 4 seeds and will face off with either No. 5 Notre Dame or No. 6 Penn State. The postseason begins March 8-10 at 3M Arena at Mariucci.

WELCOME TO MY HOUSE
Minnesota is riding a seven-game winning streak inside 3M Arena at Mariucci, its longest streak since 2017. The Gophers have trailed for only two minutes and 26 seconds during that entire stretch, spanning 420 total minutes of action, and are outscoring their opponents by a 31-10 margin. The game-deciding goals came from five different skaters with Aaron Huglen and Jimmy Snuggerud each netting a pair. Six players are averaging at least a point per game in the streak, led by Rhett Pitlick and Sam Rinzel's 12 points, while Oliver Moore has 11. Justen Close holds a 1.33 goals-against average and a .953 save percentage during the stretch.

Who is in charge of this terrible power play. No structure what so ever. Lose faceoffs all the time. The fact they can’t maintain the zone and just feed Jimmy S on the left dot for 1 timers is something.

Having to review that goal is exactly what is wrong with review. Instead of trying to fix obvious errors you are searching for errors.

Game is tied at 2 after the 1st Period.

It's pathetic to watch

Sure looks like Nelson was hit into the goalie there. This should be a Minnesota power play. It won’t be but it should be.

Gophers with another goalie interference call, this is not gonna go our way.

5-2 Gophers after 2. Minnesota has 3 Power Play goals.

Could you ever clearly see the puck go in the net? I couldn’t watching the replay. To me the assumption would have been made the puck was in the goalie gear and because the goalie was in the net it was a goal.

So instead of a penalty shot the gophers take a power play. Given the gophers inability of penalty shots and scoring it makes sense.

Gophers beat Michigan 6-2. Minnesota gets three power play goals.

They now have an 8 game Home Winning streak. Tied for the lowest active streak in D-1 hockey.

Michigan really talented on offense.
Michigan really inattentive on defense.
Michigan really undisciplined, especially when the chips are down.

Just read through comments. Only on GopherHole do we get more negative posts than positive, after winning a game against a big rival 6-2. Power play was fine tonight. D was exceptional. Nelson was great and Moore just keeps getting better. My only criticism would be the giveaways. Still too much of that. Otherwise, the guys were exceptional tonight.

Imagine sweeping Michigan and knowing that you've probably killed their chances of making the NCAA Tournament too.
Their odds are still looking decent because everyone else around them is blowing it too

Yeah almost the entire bubble was complete carnage last night. Gophers now pretty well a lock for a 2 seed

You praise them last night and they go and do this shit. Fucking hell.😤

They are who they have looked like since the exhibition and UST series. Good but not top 5 great.

Holy fucking shit, what the hell was that Powerplay? World beaters one night and the next you can't seem to string three passes together. Ffs

The PP generally only scores from individual skill or luck. Not like Michigan's PP which can pass the puck.

Agreed. That was really bad. We are not moving at all.
