Gophers have third most recruits from Fla in Big Ten over last 4 years

Ouch! Maybe they should send Pantherhawk down there. He seems to have a way with recruits.

Seeing as the top B1G programs recruit least from Florida -- what's the point of this thread?

There are a million points...

but a couple jump out for me. Iowa is failing. This could be one reason why Iowa has been on a downward spiral recently.

Bielema is a good judge of talent and a good recruiter. Bielema truly wanted the challenge of the SEC and wasn't running away from Wisconsin. He is attacking Florida hard in recruiting at Arkansas, as evidenced by his assistant hires and assignments.

One reason Ohio State and Michigan don't attack Florida as hard is
the availability of their own in state talent. Nebraska sees a need and increased their Florida numbers. Minnesota also has no available numbers in state and is forced to recruit elsewhere.

Our recruiting, based on our history, is best ever the last two years. We need to get players from everywhere. Florida and Texas have the most potential recruits. All Big Ten teams do not have the same starting line. The state of Minnesota had five or seven or something this year. (Tied with Utah or Idaho?) Florida had 435 or some such number. My point we gotta look elsewhere and so does Iowa. Failing isn't a reason to stop recruiting Florida in my opinion. Finding a better judge of talent and a better closer is the the better solution.

ESPN chimes in: Iowa's retreat from Florida a B1G problem

Go Gophers!!

LOL

Any other great insights?

The last two lines sum in up the best

"In recruiting, you follow the talent. You flock to it. You compete for it.

You don't turn your back on it."

Since nobody else has, I guess I will say the obvious.......bottom feeding off of Florida hasn't worked so well.

I think the entire article is a bit strange to be honest.

Iowa recruits Ohio much better than we do and Ohio has a lot of good football players.
We don't recruit TX as hard as we did under Brew.

I don't think you need to be tied too much to one area, the entire point in the process is to get the most talented players on your team. It doesn't really matter where they are from.

Come on, the past 40 years nothing has worked well.

Yeah, it's a giant misconception that's been floating around amongst the "recruit more MN kids" bunch. I haven't noticed much difference in the % of recruits who succeed being from MN compared to those who are from elsewhere.

We have a list of MN who came here and failed to live up to expectations.

Could someone who is not as lazy as me please put together a list of gopher all-time greats over the last 33 years hailing from individual states? I would bet my lasts child's college fund that The Minnesota team would be most impressive. Especially if we considered players from the Dakotas as Minnesota players.

FYI: in fairness to myself I did crack two ribs zip lining while on vacation recently!

I was whining like a little girl....it did get the boss to bring me some beers however!

Yea, it seems to work better with people that have a more maternal instinct than your average GopherHoler. Thank god for that!
