Gophers have distributed 46,000 tickets for Saturday's game against San Jose State

Given the expected student turnout, does that mean it is a sellout for "regular" tix?

How many times does Shooter need to remind us that Gags is the most winningest coach in college football history? I think he reminded us that 3 times in one paragraph..

Almost as much as Bud Grant, and yet Grant lost 4 Super Bowls. I remember Hank Stram's comments on the old NFL series when the Vikings lost to the Chiefs. " Look at that boys; looks like a Chinese fire drill out there" ( Vikings defense )

Go Gophers!!

Why do the ticket office/admin put this out there? There may be 46,000 tickets SOLD for Saturday's game, but I'd be very surprised if more than say 35,000 fans showed up for the game. Last week they were hyping that 44,000 "fans" would be at the game - I'd say there were maybe 30,000. Shooter's quote is fine, but if Fuller is correctly quoting the U that they're expecting 47,000 fans - implying actually attending fans - I think they're just setting everybody up for a letdown.

We're you there? There were more than 30.000 fans there Debbie Downer.

This doesn't make sense to me.

If it is 47,000 fans PLUS 5,000 students: the game is completely sold out with roughly 1,000 people in standing room locations, and half the student seats will be full of non students.

If it is 47,000 total fans INCLUDING 5,000 students: That means 42,000 non students and 5,000 students. If the stadium capacity is 50,800 - and there are 10,000 student seats, that means the regular fan portion is oversold?

And as stated... this counts tickets sold, not how many will actually be there. My guess is it will be a bit better than the last game, with plenty of open seats but at least not enough to read the "M" or "Minnesota" in the seatback locations.

Are my numbers off? If not, something is really weird.

Hopefully the students are having fun. It sure looks like they are enjoying the break between the 3rd and 4th quarters. I hope that helps to keep them coming.

Chances are only 5,000 student season ticket packages have been sold this year to date (any news articles reporting these numbers? I haven't seen anything regarding official student ticket sales). So, given how student tickets are selling this week, the U is able to forecast they won't fill the student section and has opened up some of the seats in the upper deck to the general public. It could also be they are selling standing room only tickets that would get you access to the upper deck of the student section. Or the tickets that are being given away by the Epilepsy Foundation came from the student section.

Just a guess.

per Sid:

According to Gophers deputy athletic director David Benedict, Saturday’s football game against San Jose State is 600 tickets from a sellout. The Minnesota athletic department donated 2,000 tickets.

Go Gophers!!

Why do they even try? I'm sure because of the horrible kickoff time, student apathy, and pathetic opponent quality--not to mention the Gophers sad 3-0 record--maybe 25,000 show up.

Wish I was there.
