Poor Jerry Kill 2.3 million base salary and a chance for 200 grand in bonus money. The Jerry Kill walks on water crowd will certainly agree with Sid.
^ Exhibit A for why our program has not risen to an elite level for decades.
If you want to play with the big boys, the Gophers are going to have to start acting like them. You get what you pay for.
You're clueless.
Kill hasn't done enough to get paid like one of the big boys. That also has been noted by many of the posts with regards to the "donation" fee increase.
So your "Exhibit A" completely unfounded.
Is Kill not (at least) on par with Ferentz and Pelini; and better than Fitzgerald, Hazell, & Co?
I think, given his successes in the B1G West, he absolutely deserves to be paid like one of the big boys.
From what I can see, the only coach with more success in the past couple years than Kill in our division is Anderson.
He's about 1 million underpaid right now. He definitely deserves to be in that 3 mil range. Give us a little more sustained success before bumping him to 4 mil.
So 2 years is enough?
Sorry but Kill is not on par with Ferentz or Pelini at this point. Ferentz has won bowl games been to BCS bowl games and Pelini had just finished his 7 straight 9 win season. Can Kill get to that level? Maybe but he isn't even close as of today.

One problem is that two-three years is enough for another school to come poaching- and then we're back to square one
Didn't the other B1G coaches just name him Coach of the Year? Wouldn't that mean that the others aren't on par with him? He's the best in the B1G….at least this year. There isn't anyone I'd trade him for, that's for sure.
Kill and his staff have proven they can coach. Is Kill going to get offered a job that would be anything more than a lateral on slightly above Minnesota move? It seems unlikely.
If Kill leaves I do not see the program going back to square one. Hopefully he will have left it pretty good shape compared to when he took over.
He was good this year. One year doesn't make him on par with the others that have had more success at a B1G school up to this point.
Didn't the others start with schools with better histories, with better recruits, with better facilities, not facing academic probation? Kill started with a pile of crap and built a team in short order that can compete. It is an amazing turnaround and he did it by working hard and working smart. He didn't come in as a star coach like Lou Holtz….someone who could get big time recruits in; he did the best he could and built them up into B1G players of the year…he has a B1G POY…WALK ON this year! And that doesn't even mention all the intangibles he brings to the state by being such a stand up guy. The $15 million donation was from a regent who loved Kill….What the heck else do you expect him to do?
do you think urban would have beaten wisconsin with the bunch of 2 star and unrated, unrecruited athletes? can he find overlooked players, convince them to walk on and build them into B1G POYs? your expectations are unrealistic. it's not about where he is, it's about how far he has taken them. a good chunk of the "big boys" don't play by the rules either…so in some cases it isn't a level playing field.

Sorry Scools, this is a loser's mentality. We have the B1G coach of the year. We were one win from the Championship game (with a pretty brutal passing game due to sub par QB and WRs, which is really amazing and speaks volumes of this coaching staff--and is something that should improve next yr). We have a coach who is underpaid compared to the best coaches in the B1G.
We either act like is a big deal or say let's wait and see. And if Kill wins the B1G championship next yr, he's as good as gone. Time to pay like we're a big time program and then pay even more if it doesn't work out.
Not sure how saying if Kill leaves he will have leave the program in good shape is a losers mentality. And if Kill goes 6-6 next year is he as good as gone? But of course 6-6 is out of the question isn't it.
You're not getting it. If he is the answer--the guy who can deliver us from decades in football purgatory--you better pray we didn't just convince him to leave b/c we're too damn cheap of a program to give our coach of the yr a raise and pay him on par with the B1G coaching elite.
It doesn't matter what his record is next yr. What matters is whether we pay like an elite program. If he doesn't pan out, our raise this year speaks volumes to the next coach. Go big or go home.
I don't like how much money is being spent either, but this is the market for a big time coach and program--- act like we belong.
I get it just fine. "if he is the answer ..." says it all. He has yet to prove he is the answer. Just read the price increase threads. Many posters agree the program under Kill has yet proved itself for those type of increases. If he hasn't proved himself for that he hasn't proved he deserves to be paid like the B1G coaching elite.
Teague has really backed himself into a corner. He will be expected to keep the wallet wide open for the Football Program.

What about this for an idea: restructure his contract and give him ~$3mm a year, but make the buyout $5+ million?
