Gophers getting new uniforms tomorrow?!

Whoa, this feels like a full scale redesign and not an alternate. Came outta nowhere for me...we'll see. Hope to see Chrome Goldy remain!

The vibe of the messaging indicates something more retro...

If all they do is get rid of the white collar on the uniforms, I'd be happy. I think the current uniforms look great.

When the video ended with the white M I panicked.

Love them.

Does this mean we lost the gold chrome helmets?

Per the U:

New look. New U.

The University of Minnesota football team will debut new uniforms in the upcoming 2024 season.

The Nike uniforms unveiled today feature Minnesota's traditional colors of maroon and gold and include a white uniform for road games. Minnesota will also retain its current alternate black uniforms as an option for the 2024 season.

The most significant changes to the uniforms are the addition of shoulder stripes to the jerseys and stripes on the side of the pants.

The state of Minnesota will be featured on the outside collar of all three jerseys, while Minnesota's rallying call of Ski-U-Mah will be emblazoned on the inside of the jersey collar. The iconic Block M will remain on the front of the jersey, situated in the middle of the collar right above the numbers. The Big Ten logo will be on the right chest, while the Nike swoosh will be on the left chest and left hip of the uniforms.

The maroon jerseys will feature gold numbers, which is a change from the previous maroon jerseys when the numbering was white.

The official colors for the uniforms unveiled today are Night Maroon, University Gold and White. Minnesota's helmet colors for the 2024 season will be maroon, gold and white.

The uniforms are the Nike Vapor Field Utility Special Edition (F.U.S.E.) variety, which are stronger, lighter and more breathable than Minnesota's previous uniforms.

Today's jersey relaunch is the first for Minnesota since it unveiled new uniforms in February 2018. Those uniforms were worn for six seasons from 2018-23.

The new uniforms will also be featured in the upcoming EA Sports College Football 25 video game.

The last time Minnesota wore each jersey color is below:

Maroon: Dec. 26, 2023 vs. Bowling Green
Gold: Nov. 20, 2020 vs. Purdue
White: Nov. 18, 2023 at Ohio State
Black: Oct. 28, 2023 vs. Michigan State

They are just okay. Nothing objectionable, but I feel like this is the death of fun for the football uniforms.

"Night Maroon"... I hope that means the maroon is more like the Kill-era dark maroon, and less the purple-ish/magenta-ish maroon we've had recently.

Lighting can do funny things, but they look lighter/redder than the Kill era tops and the 2023 kit, closer to the Mason era.

These look great- big upgrade!
If consistency is the goal, yes. I liked the bold chrome helmets and Goldy heads of the prior era. I know they were somewhat off-brand but I didn't care.

The black and the anthracite can go to the dustbin. But Chrome Goldy looks (with W/M and M/M) were my favorite that the Gophers have ever worn.

Pros: The colorblock numbers with no trim ala Kill-era, as well as the Kill-era number fonts remain. It appears that maroon-over-gold combo is making a comeback. It appears the war on gold is potentially over; possibility for full banana!

Cons: Although not an exact replica, the stripes on the shoulders remind me of Iowa. Without any white trim on the numbers or names, the white stripes on the shoulders look out of place and stick out unnecessarily. The stripes on the pants are also fussy. I would much prefer they vanquish all white on the maroon and gold tops/pants completely.

Overall, not bad. They got about 90% there, so not really complaining.

Agree. I don't think I'll miss the white numbers and white v-neck. I might miss the chrome gold helmets, though.

Is there a rule that only three base helmets can be used....white being added? Or are the chrome helmets still able to be used?

Jerseys are fantastic though. Will go great with the already excellent helmets.

Agreed. The maroon can look wildly different in direct sunlight vs. cloudy day vs. night game. I'll hold out judgement until I see them in a day game on the field.

The war on gold is over!!! Yay! I love these uniforms. Gotta see them live on the field but I suspect I will like them as much as the Kill-era uniforms (which in my opinion were the team’s best ever).

Also, I’m surprised there has not been a “I don’t care what they wear as long as they win” post in this thread yet. I always get a kick out of the guys that take the time to go into uniform threads to post about how they don’t care about uniforms.

Look at night games under Kill, they looked eggplant/purple then too. This isn't unique to the last set.

They always look more redish in the direct sun and purple at night

They really did a great job. I know some people won't like the white but it ties in all the combos of helmets, pants, and jerseys. Yet remains very traditional.

I do hope they continue to do the fun stuff with the helmets. I may be in the minority with this next opinion but I am fine with the metallic gold helmets being retired. They were on the edge of being out of fashion when they were introduced and a lot of schools that used to wear them have retired them. They will forever be part of two massive wins from the 2019 season - Penn State and Auburn.
