Go Gophers!!

I hope he comes to St. Cloud because I already asked off that day.

I hope he isn't there to steal any Gustie recruits.

I'm surprised they'd host him in Lund Center. They must be expecting a big crowd because stuff like this is usually set up in Alumni Hall.

I spent the first 23 years of my life in St. Peter. Now in my first year out of town and as a Gustie grad Kill will be speaking there. Unfortunate timing. But yes, good point Shnauzer. I am as surprised as you.

Was Alex Haas the last Gopher recruit from St. Peter? I liked his game.
Although I have no connections to St. Peter, I've driven through it hundreds of times. It always makes me feel good driving down 169. St. Peter is a good break and I don't mind driving 30 mph for a couple of miles. It's pristine. Taco John's is just an added bonus.

Well thanks. I'm glad you can enjoy the ride through town. I'm pretty confident Haas was the last St. Peter graduate to play for the Gophers. His big catch in the final drive in the 1999 Penn State upset was exciting for the town. He was an assistant coach at the high school when I played. Great guy.

I'll try and channel my inner DL65 and provide a recap of tonight.

I thought that Coach Kill did a great job relating himself to the audience, and he commands attention with his presence. I thought he did well with showing a bit more of a softer side when he was talking about his Dad and the promise he made to him before he died. He and his brother split time having Mom live with them, as they both promised Dad that they would always take care of her once he was gone.

He talked about the expanding B1G pretty frankly, stating that Maryland and Rutgers are only about money. Said that each school can expect a sizable increase in their revenue share once those two teams start play. (Which, I know, is nothing new but seemed new to hear it that bluntly from a official)

Coach Kill thinks that the B1G isn't done expanding and specifically mentioned the Big 12 as a conference to grab a team (or 2) from

After spring ball the team was visited by 4 Special Forces members. One was an amputee and has just climbed Mt. McKinley. They were there to conduct team building and leadership exercises that included time in the pool as well as time on the field.

When talking about the future of The U, he spoke with such conviction that it was almost shocking. There isn't a sliver of doubt in his mind that we are headed in the right direction. And that we will get there sooner rather than later.

He spoke about a total commitment throughout the department and likened Minnesota to Southern Illinois in that the commitment started very slowly but with winning, the momentum snowballed quickly. At Northern Illinois the commitment was immediate with the rewards being seen nationally last season and their Orange Bowl trip.

Finally, a common theme throughout his talk was his commitment to bettering others around him, assistants and staff pay, family support, etc. and that it all came from his roots and that commitment to others was strong within his family and community in Kansas.

While I am no DL65, I hope this gives an idea of tonight. If others were there and I forgot something important, or misrepresented Coach Kill in anyway, please add to this post.

Thanks for not only sharing the information but for also giving us a great feel for where Jerry is at and how he is feeling. If I didn't no better I would say that you are DL65's twin brother.

Thanks MKE. Any chance you can expound upon the bolded part?

It was as if he has seen the future and knows the exact date that we "make it". He feels like everyone has truly bought in on his plan and the entire ship is moving forward together, almost seamlessly now, which, at first was not the case. Going from 3 wins, to 6 wins and a bowl game, and showing improvement each spring, this was the other topic during his talk that he likened us to Southern Illinois and it has been well documented what happened there in year 3. Now, I'm not saying he thinks we're a 10 win team this year but I left thinking that he knows something we don't about this team and that his confidence is high.

Nope, I am now hyped for a 10 win season based solely on your summary of Kill's talk. :)
