Yep.

"Two years ago, the Gophers were 6-1 and riding a four-game winning streak, which included recapturing the Little Brown Jug from Michigan at The Big House two weeks prior. Before traveling to Champaign, they eked out a 39-38 win over Purdue — similar to their 34-32 victory over Rutgers last week.

Then?

“We felt flat,” Gophers quarterback Mitch Leidner said. “I think we had a bye week after that, and guys were just looking forward to getting that bye week in and really didn’t come to play.”

Come 11 a.m. Saturday, the Gophers (5-2, 2-2 Big Ten) hope to avoid another letdown against Illinois (2-5, 1-3) at Memorial Stadium in Champaign.

Back to 2014: The Gophers still had a chance to flee Illinois with a victory until David Cobb’s fourth-quarter fumble was returned 12 yards for a touchdown by V’Angelo Bentley for the go-ahead score in a 28-24 Minnesota loss.

Wide receiver Drew Wolitarsky said Minnesota’s lackluster play was induced by the subdued 44,427 fans in the 60,000-seat Memorial Stadium.

Defensive coordinator Jay Sawvel didn’t think the proper explanation was either what Leidner nor Wolitarsky offered. “Our team went down there thinking we were a lot better then what we really were,” Sawvel said.

Both Claeys and Sawvel have said the parity in college football necessitate attentive performances each week. Outside of Alabamas of college football, “there’s not a team out there that’s so appreciably better then somebody else that you just say, ‘Oh, yeah, we’re better then them,’ ” Sawvel said...
