Gophers Earn 74 Fall Academic All-B1G Honors

Damn. This kind of thing makes me even more proud than the win total. Both are important, but winning with STUDENT athletes is always great.

I read the title and thought 60% of our football players were recognized.

30 is awesome too!

Way to go guys! Keep up the hard work!

posted by Norsk_Gopher

This morning the Big Ten Conference announced its list of student-athletes who have received their Academic All-B1G award who participate in Fall sports (at the U this means football, men's and women's cross country, women's soccer and volleyball). In total, 977 students received this award, including 74 from the University of Minnesota! To receive this award, a student-athlete must be a letter-winner, be in at least their second academic year at their institution, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Paige Tapp, a Sophomore Volleyball player, leads the way with a perfect 4.0. Breakdown by Sport at U of M: Football: 30 Women’s Cross Country: 18 Men’s Cross Country: 6 Women’s Soccer: 15 Volleyball: 5 For the full list of student-athletes receiving this award, click on the link this link.

Congrats to everyone on there. I think it is noteworthy that a lot of key players are on the list, this isn't a situation where we have a bunch of walkons filling up the academic list as window dressing while no starters are on the list (obviously, a hearty congrats to the walkons on the list as well, their time constraints aren't any less difficult than the starters). I was originally very concerned that no basketball or hockey players made the list before realizing that these were just the fall sports.
