They have a shot at Northwestern Saturday; at Purdue and Illinois; and an outside chance of upsetting either Penn State or Iowa (win one for the coach). If they end up 5-7, it won't seem so bad, given the schedule. Nevertheless, I'd love to see Petersen, Harbough, Richt or someone equally qualified at the helm next year.

Really? I haven't seen much to indicate that this team will win another game. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I can only hope that something like this happens. In the meantime, I will focus on making this season's tailgates the best ever!

Awful tackling has doomed us so far. Fix that, among a few other lesser problems and I could still see it happening. The team clearly has some talent, but a combination of poor game planning and failed offensive strategy is keeping us down right now.

The Gophers have a chance to beat everyone else on the schedule, that is why the game are play and not decided on paper. NU is going to provide numerous match-up problems for the Gopher secondary and Dan Persa is leading the NCAA in passer efficiency ratings. Minnesota defeated NU last year because the Gophers found a balance between the run and the pass. Bennett rushed for 89 yards and scored 3 tds. Most of the important gains made by Bennett were on 3rd down and the gophers were 8-14 that day converting 3rd downs. If Minny wants to win they need to find a running game and and force NU into 3rd down and longs. Unfortunately, I see Minnesota keeping this game close and late in the 4th quarter a turnover or big play from NU will cost the gophers the game. I don't see this being a blowout.

I give the Gophers a chance (albeit Dumb & Dumber-like) to win 3 more games. ... Northwestern, Purdue and Illinois. They have no chance against Wisconsin, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan State & Iowa. The best I can see is 4-8 but won't hold my breath on that.

GoAUpher where do you tailgate?

gopherguy05 and I have a spot in C89. I don't make it to every game since I live in Madison, but I'll be there for Northwestern and Penn State. gg05 has been holding down the fort the other weeks (apparently the lot was very lonely when he got there at 1:30ish this week :(). Where are you at?

Northwestern have won 10 out 12 regular season games and 7 in a row. Played Auburn to OT in the 2010 Outback Bowl.

Too many people underestimate Northwestern's ability besides this is a complete coaching mismatch. If the Gophers win this game it will be a huge upset.

5 wins is highly unlikely. The best chance they have of winning another game this year IMO would be the Purdue game.

Here is the conclusion that I have reached after following this board after every humiliating loss: People forget what happened within a matter of days, and all of a sudden all the issues this team has will be cleared up by the next game and we should be fine. One word answer:No.

I'm over at Ski-u-Mah. If ya ever wanna come over feel free. Our lot wasn't too bad Saturday considering.

It wouldn't shock me to sneak in another victory or two, but I can't see anything on the schedule that would make me believe it will be more than that.

I'll admit I'm being generous giving the Gophers a chance vs. Northwestern. Fitzgerald is an excellent football coach.

I give the Gophers a chance vs. Purdue and Illinois largely because Danny Hope and Zooker aren't exactly the brightest X and O guys, either. Brew might have a chance in a chess match vs. those two, if the game is close in the final minutes.

USD lost to North Dakota State U by a score of 16 - 38. Unless NDSU is better than OSU, it just shows you how far down the totem pole we are in the B10. Teams are going to run all over us and we are going to pound the rock for the first 2 downs, gain a total of 3 yards, and try and pass on 3rd down for 8 yards (which will inevitably be incomplete). I think it is better, for one's mental health, to go into B10 play bracing yourself for a long season. If you are expecting the Gophers to turn it around, I am afraid you are setting yourself up for HUGE dissapointment.

Hmmm....why did you stop at just the last 12 regular season games? What's their record in the last 13 regular season games?

Someone still doesn't get it.....

Stewart Mandel from SI suggests there is a chance:

• The Toledo loss was extra costly for the hard-luck Boilers, who lost starting quarterback Robert Marve, who reinjured the knee in which he tore his ACL last year. He'll get an MRI on Monday, but it doesn't look good. Mind you, Purdue has already lost top running back Robert Bolden and top receiver Keith Smith to ACL injuries. Minnesota and Illinois may have some competition for the Big Ten basement.

Hmmm....they have won 12 out their last 17. Does that make it easier for you to understand what the point is? Or are you just paranoid? I could be a troll. A Northwestern troll at that. Oh the horror of it all.

The Three Stooges. Which one is which? Zook looks like a blonde-haired Moe to me.
