Gophers beat Auburn, land in top 10 of Strib stories!

The Huge win over Auburn is currently #7 among Minneapolis Star Tribune stories when looking on their phone app!

When combined with the fact some Gopher football photos ranked highly (but lower than Wisconsin Axe win for the sports editor), it is clear this team is starting to turn heads locally!

So, mere hours after the Outback Bowl win, the Strib had it as the seventh story down the list when pulling up their phone app.

By comparison, the Vikings playoff victory was the number one story all evening last night and a quick check this morning, the Vikings are still at the top of the list.

None of this is surprising, just confirmation of what we already know... The Vikings dominate the local sports market. It does make me wonder, however, if at least some of this is a self fulfilling prophecy. Gopher football did extremely well, with improving numbers in local TV ratings as the season progressed. There were a lot of eyeballs in the Twin City market on the Outback Bowl. Media coverage drives viewership and viewership should drive media coverage.
