per the PiPress:

"Tubby Smith fired and bought out at Minnesota," Bilas tweeted (@JayBilas). "Wow. Just, wow. Clearly, these schools have PLENTY of money laying around."

"I'm sick at the firing of Tubby Smith," Bilas tweeted. "This is the business we've chosen, but that doesn't make it right. Not a better man in the game."

Go Gophers!!

I didn't know Bilas could show any emotion.

He clearly did not watch enough Gopher basketball games. Just because he is a "better man" doesn't mean he is any good at coaching.

Good men dont always win and bad men dont always lose. Just ask Tiger Woods and Rick Pitino.

Only time will tell if Jay Bilas is right or not.

You still need to win if your in a Big conference.

One NCAA victory in 6 years,...tough to run with the big dogs.

There you have it from Bilas himself. Tubby is just too nice to get fired.

And like someone else said, I really doubt that Bilas watched Tubby's team the past two months. You know, too busy with that whole ACC/SEC thing and all.

@TimBrando

.@MRdettman Schools listening to bloggers and Message Board types to make decisions about hiring and firing is exactly the problem. PERIOD!

Tubby is just one of those guys everyone likes personally and I think that is what Bilas was trying to get out.

I feel sick about it, too. Mostly sick because it didn't work out - and it was supposed to - but I feel bad for Coach Smith, too. He didn't intend for things to end this way, but they did. Aside from a very few, I don't think there are a lot of folks who care about the Gophers who feel things went well here. That's the unavoidable bottom line: things didn't go well here.

I'm glad that you are happy and pleased with sub .500 B1G Ten records. So cool.

I'm not sure whether this person is a Gopher fan or a Tubby fan. One of the guys that was complaining about this firing stated that he was a Tubby fan and the politely said he wouldn't be on the board anymore since Tubby wasn't our coach anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy is a Tubby fan and just was here because of it.

Coack K still feels sick when he thinks about Bilas trying to guard Pervis Ellison.

Bilas is sick from the Tubby firing...Funny that Tubby's Offense made me sick for the last six years. Tubby seemed like a good guy, but he was a terrible in game coach who only had 5successful out of bounds plays in six years.

Bilas wants nothing more than to keep MN from getting a big time program. He could give a *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# less about anything else, other than his beloved ACC.

You really thinks he gives a damn about Minnesota?

PTI: Minnesota, who the hell do they think they are?

Saw that too. Makes me hope that Shaka is the hire even more so we can beat down Wilbon's cats and make him eat his words.

That's the national reaction (especially from ESPN) whenever Minnesota fires a coach in either football or basketball. Just par for the course.

Nope just Mason and Tubby.

Nope just Mason and Tubby.

Should've rephrased. My mistake. Whenever Minnesota fires a coach that has any kind of name recognition in either football or basketball.

That's a little more accurate.
