Gophers athletics under Joel Maturi: Better off then or now?

Very good and interesting read when all things are considered. The Big Two (FB and BB) naturally carry all of the weight regarding people's opinions of Joel Maturi, but that leads to tunnel vision opinions.

I thought Marcus put a lot of overall info together to make this article become a lot of food for thought.

How do I feel about the state of the Gophers? I don't know.

I'll quote a tweet I read on this issue which pretty much mirrors my thoughts:

"Better off now, but not where they should be"

Thanks for the link! I agree with the article and am anxious to see what Teague can do.

That is the best summary. We're about 3-4 years behind.

We were better off before Maturi, that was a bad hire.

About as wrong as you can get. Review the condition of the AD from about 1971-2002...

1971-88 Paul Giel (men's)
1974-76 Belmar Gunderson (women's)
1976-81 Vivian M. Barfield (women's)
1981-82 M. Catherine Mathison (women's interim)
1982-88 Merrily Dean Baker (women's)
1988-89 Holger Christiansen (men's interim)
1988–2002 Chris Voelz (women's)
1989-91 Rick Bay (men's)
1991-92 Dan Meinert (men's interim)
1992-95 McKinley Boston (men's)
1995-99 Mark Dienhart (men's)
1999–2002 Tom Moe (men's)

Maturi should have never been hired.

The U really needs to do better in the future.

I do think we are turning the corner though.
