Gophers +3.5 tonight

I'll take the underdog role again tonight...works for me.

I would bet on the Gophs. I think it will be a close game that goes either way...I picked the Gophs to win by 2 on the pick the score thread.

ND Gopher - question on the no respect angle, the Gophs were like 6 or 7 point dogs to the #8 ranked team in the country on Friday, I would say that shows some respect, IMO...

WV is a good team, would it really surprise anyone if they won a 65-61 game?

WV is a good team, we really only have one win against UNC who really isn't the UNC of old. Nice to get it on the resume, but I have to think #8 is the highest UNC will be all year.

For the record: Lines aren't set by which team Vegas oddsmakers think will win. They are set in hopes that they get close to 50 percent of the cash on each side of the bet.

It's about making money, not showing respect. They want half the people to say that WV is at least 4-5 points better than the Gophers and half the people to say that the Gophers just beat Carolina, they are totally going to handle WV. And they want you to back it up with cash.

Probably true. Harrison Barnes does not impress me the same way other recent high school superstars have. I don't think he can carry them. I think the Gophers without Devoe at only +3.5 is giving them a lot of respect.

Vegas

Oddsmaker's do consider who might win or every game would be a pick'em....

The number they post is to get action on both sides but the number takes into consideration who is the better team and who should win.

Ravens were -15 at Carolina today I think Vegas set the line knowing Baltimore is better and should win..

Gophers were +6 against the #8 Tar Heels I think that showed great respect.. I guarantee many UNC alums and boosters lost money on that game they thought it would be a lock UNC would win and cover...

I was all over +6 on Friday. The bookies have their own rankings, #8 means nothing to them. One big reason I took the Gophers was simply matchups and experience. UNC very young. Very soft. Nothing inside. To me it was a steal.

If you would've asked me to set the line today, I would've put it around -2 or -3 for the Gophers. With a 6 point difference in the real line, I trust my gambling addict mind.

In most cases, odds are a good proxy for what the oddsmakers believe will be the outcome.

PS - North Carolina is not a good team.

Vandy vs N. Carolina on ESPN2.

Rooting for NC. Some (Pewterschmidt) may consider that a violation of moral or religious principles

That's generally true, but not always. If say Notre Dame is playing New Mexico State, the reality is it is likely that more money is going to come in on ND, regardless of say the line, from ND fans wanting some action on the game. In this case, they can't just set the line where the money is half and half, but where there is a reasonable hope ND won't cover.

With regards to the game tonight, while NC was a great win, both teams are un-ranked and WVU is coming off a final four. Regardless of who's going to win, the money would come pretty heavy on WVU if we were favored.
