Here are scoring summaries for the Gophers’ play in the 2ND HALF. I used Big Ten and Power 5 games only, regular season. Skipped 2020 COVID year.

2024 to date:
Record 0-2, Gophers have scored 3 total points in the second halves, opponents have scored 36. {NB: we led at half-time in both these games by a score of 14-7; both games were considered toss-up/winnable; out-scored by a factor of 12:1 in the 2nd halves.)

2023:
Record 3-7, Gophers scored 71 2nd half points, opponents scored 156.

2022:
Record 6-4, Gophers scored 105 2nd half points, opponents scored 81.

2021:
Record 7-3, Gophers scored 127 2nd half points, opponents scored 89 (35 of which came in Ohio State game).

2019:
Record 7-2, Gophers scored 171 2nd half points, opponents scored 88.

Bad trend line in 2nd half play recently.

This info might be relevant to a couple other threads. NIL and transfer rules have certainly changed the game. But if we are regressing versus old B1G West teams, and Maryland and Rutgers (we’ll know soon enough), these aren’t big NIL or top-end transfer destinations.

Kirk and especially Joe both seemed good at making 2nd half adjustments.

Sounds like we have a hell of an Offensive Coordinator and a head coach who really knows how to help him out. Have I been saying that for a while now? Thanks for doing the work and posting this Gophergrandpa. I think you’ve shown the trend. What all this says is bet heavily against the Gophers, particularly in game.
