Coach Kill was on the Sports Huddle but a few minutes today. Most of the questions were repeats from previous weeks. Nevertheless, the following are his responses and comments to questions by Sid Hartman and Dave Mona on today's Sports Huddle:

1) Sid opened the questioning by asking if he was alright (question related to the storm(s) that passed through the Twin Cities yesterday) - "Storm hit you:" Kill replied, "No. We were fortunate, some trees down . . . we did okay."

2) Sid, once again, asked what the coaches are doing during June and July: Kill said they just finished the last of the June camps (7 on 7 drills) Thursday night. The coaches will start taking turns for vacations ("Coaches taking time off with families; a little down time.") Coaches still recruiting . . . they hope to get a couple kids on campus this week. They're also preparing for a couple camps in late July, before the fall drills begin, which is August 1.

3) Sid asked about a special event in July: Kill said he, the coaches, and their spouses are looking forward to "Date Night" on July 18. They tweaked last year's event and he believes the participants - guests and staff - will enjoy the evening get together. (Contact information, if interested, can be found in the Sports Huddle Summary that I posted on June 9.)

4) Sid asked about the July football camps: Kill said they're hoping to fill up the two camps, shortly. He sounded pleased with this year's camps and is looking forward to the two next month.

5) Sid, again, asked if there were any kids (unknown before camp) that stood out: "Absolutely," Kill answered. He went onto say people (he didn't say competing coaches or recruiting services, but I believe that's what was inferred) don't know about the kids that show up and excel in the camp.

Kill also said this year's camps, thus far, have been the best since his arrival at Minnesota . . . they hit all age groups for the camps . . . and they found a couple kids that nobody knows about. (Of course, no names given.)

6) Dave Mona asked if the parents of recruits and campers ask questions related to the national topic of concussions and related injuries: Kill said they focus on teaching fundamentals , , , "Not a lot of questions about concussions and so forth."

Kill did say awareness (safety instructions) of potential injuries and equipment improvements have gone a long way in addressing concussion-related issues.

7) Sid, once again, asked if there were any redshirts that stood out last spring: Kill, once again, cited the following players: "Jack Lynn had a nice spring." (Got his (kill's) attention.) "Nick Rallis did some good things." He also mentioned Maxx Williams, as having a good spring. He then cited the three offensive linemen that were redshirted. (He didn't mention their names, except for Jonah Pirsig.) Kill said Pirsig is "back from knee surgery and is doing some things." Kill sounded pleased when talking about Pirsig's recovery.

Go Gophers!!

Was going to bitch about the lousy reporters in this town...but instead I am just going to say Thanks DL, I appreciate your doing this.

Sadly, when guys like Sid and Fat Pat finally kick the bucket, the next generation of local reporters seems to be lead by Myron and Doogie, who are just as lousy but without a personality.

It'll be interesting to see if/when these "unknown" recruits surface. MN usually has a few kids who fly under the radar and develop into solid players.

Thanks again, DL. Your summary of the Sports Huddle today made for another good read on some of the same topics discussed with Coach Kill in previous visits. Even in the quiet of the off season, you gave us another good summary. Thanks a million.
