Brandt, Ramsey, Terry, Bona and Cameranesi were recognized by USCHO
Five Golden Gopher women's hockey players have been named 2014 All-USCHO honorees, U.S. College Hockey Online announced today. Minnesota led the way with five honorees, including two first team members.
Sophomore Hannah Brandt (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) and junior Rachel Ramsey(Chanhassen, Minn.) both picked up first-team honors. Senior Kelly Terry (Whitby, Ont.) was named to the second team, and junior Rachael Bona (Coon Rapids, Minn.) made USCHO's third team. Freshman Dani Cameranesi (Plymouth, Minn.) rounded out Minnesota's award winners on the All-Rookie Team.
The 24 players honored by USCHO represent 15 different teams. Behind Minnesota's five honorees, Clarkson has three. Eight players represent the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) as Alex Rigsby (Wisconsin), Sara Schmitt (Ohio State) and Lara Stalder (Minnesota Duluth) joined the five Gophers in collecting USCHO honors.
Eight players are seniors, while six are juniors. Three of the four sophomores named made the first team, including Brandt.
Brandt picked up the second USCHO honor of her career after being named to both the All-USCHO Second Team and the USCHO All-Rookie Team in 2013. A top-three Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award finalist this season, Brandt was also named the WCHA Player of the Year and a CCM Division I Women’s Hockey First Team All-American. The center wrapped up her sophomore season as the nation's second leading scorer with 65 points (23 goals, 42 assists); she led the NCAA with 42 assists and 1.02 assists per game in 41 games. Brandt finished the regular season as the WCHA Scoring Champion with 40 points (14 goals, 26 assists) in league games. She also was recognized as a WCHA Scholar-Athlete and a WCHA All-Academic Team member this season.
Ramsey concluded her junior season as the nation's second highest scoring defenseman with 43 points (12 goals, 31 assists) and 1.05 points per game in 41 games. In addition to her All-USCHO First Team honors, Ramsey was named to the CCM Division I Women’s Hockey All-American First Team with Brandt. Her 43 points were a career high and placed her fifth in scoring on the team. The WCHA Defensive Player of the Year, Ramsey led the WCHA defensemen in scoring with 30 points in league games. She was also honored as a WCHA First Team honoree, a WCHA Scholar-Athlete and a WCHA All-Academic Team member this season.
Terry finished her Gopher career with 155 points on 57 goals and 98 assists. She picked up All-WCHA First Team honors and was named the WCHA Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year this season along with being named to the All-USCHO Second Team. A forward who scored over 30 points in each of her four seasons at Minnesota, Terry finished her senior year with a career-best 54 points (22 goals, 32 assists) and ranked ninth in the NCAA with 1.32 points per game this year. Terry also earned All-WCHA Academic Team honors and was named a WCHA Scholar-Athlete this season.
Bona, a junior forward, was named a top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award in addition to being named to the All-USCHO Third Team this season. She finished the year with a career-best 61 points (23 goals, 38 assists), nearly doubling her point total from a year ago (32 points). Bona's 38 assists ranked second in the nation, and her 61 points were good for third. She picked up All-WCHA Second Team honors after recording 38 points (15 goals, 23 assists) in league games as well. Bona was named a 2014 WCHA Scholar-Athlete and named to the All-WCHA Academic Team for her accomplishments in the classroom.
Along with being named to the USCHO All-Rookie Team, Cameranesi was named the WCHA Rookie of the Year and earned a place on the All-WCHA Rookie Team. The top scoring freshman in the WCHA this season, Cameranesi posted 24 points (14 goals, 10 assists) in league games. She finished her freshman campaign as the nation's second leading scorer among rookies with 36 points (19 goals, 17 assists). Her 0.88 points per game in 41 games placed her third among the nation's freshmen as well.
Minnesota concluded the 2014 season as the national runner-up after falling to Clarkson, 5-4, in the national championship game. The Gophers posted their second-highest win total in program history with a 38-2-1 mark. Minnesota was the 2014 WCHA Final Faceoff champion and the WCHA regular-season champion in 2014.
