I'm looking at planning a Gopher trip with friends to go watch the Northwestern game at Wrigley. This would be my first Gopher road trip. Any idea the best way to go about game tickets? From looking at NW's games last year at Wrigley, it did not look like they came close to selling out, so I would assume it would be the same situation here. However, currently on the secondary markets, tickets are close to $200. I'm sure there will be a premium since the game is at Wrigley.

When you go on Gopher road trips, do you typically buy through the allotment that the U of M gets?

Any ideas are welcome!

When they played the Penn State white out game I got tickets through gopher athletics and it was much cheaper than it would have been on secondary market.

Yup. We got tix to the Ohio State gam in Columbus a couple of years ago through the U as well. A lot cheaper than secondary sites.
Also, we're also thinking of going to Chicago for the NW game too and taking Amtrak's Borealis down there. We'll see.

It won't be close to a sell out. Buy tickets on a secondary site under four hours until gametime (try aggregator app Gametime for great prices)
Would be interested to see stats on crowd size and ticket price on other wrigley games

But not interested enough to look up myself

I attended the Northwestern-Illinois game last November (the Saturday after the Gophers win at Camp Randall). I assumed that there would be lots of tickets available on the secondary market for under face value given that Northwestern doesn't draw flies and it was a holiday weekend. As I monitored the secondary market in the weeks before the game I was somewhat surprised that the ticket inventory was rather low, the prices were high and there was little movement in either the inventory or the prices. Even as the week of the game approached and the weather forecast was less than ideal (about 15 degrees with 10-15 MPH wind), not much was available that wasn't way overpriced.

I ended up buying tickets the morning of the game for about face price. Guy in front of me at the game jokingly asked me if I wanted to buy the empty seats next to him. He bought six tickets and only used two. Asked if he tried to sell them before the game and he said he "didn't want to deal with the hassle."

The announced attendance was something like 26,000. Obviously less that that there, but it was a decent crowd given the weather. The Northwestern fans I spoke to were mostly over the novelty of playing at Wrigley. Illinois fans mostly lived in Chicago area and/or were home for Thanksgiving. My advice would be to wait it out. There will either be cheap seats on the secondary market or, failing that, plenty of seats available at the box office.

Illinois-Northwestern had announced attendance of about 26,000 last year. Most of the games that I can recall have featured an opponent that travels well and has a large Chicago alumni base (Illinois, Ohio State, Iowa). I'd like to think that there will be a sizeable Gopher contingent there, but don't expect enough to come close to that number.

I am planning on going but it’s hard to know for certain this far out

I like sitting with Gopher fans, I've bought tickets through the ticket office for PSU, tOSU, Rutgers the last couple years. Definitely cheaper for PSU and OSU going that route.

It's on my maybe list, too. If I had known that the Gophers would be playing there this year, probably would have skipped the game there last year. I was hoping to see the temporary stadium on the lake. Fun to experience a game at Wrigley, but it's not a great venue to actually watch the game.

Yep this is my thought. Wrigley is awesome, but football games played in baseball parks are not. Personally I was hoping we'd be playing in their temp stadium on the lake, even knowing that tickets would be tougher to come by.

The timing of the game isn't great either, for those of us hoping to hit the game in Eugene the week prior.
