I read the following take from Chris Spielman, former OSU linebacker and current NFL analyst. "Spielman now estimates there are 40-50 players on the current roster who will get into NFL camps. That's Miami-level type stuff from those 2001-02 powerhouse Hurricane teams."

How do the Gophers stack up talent wise? I think the current roster has double digit NFL camp invitees although a significantly lower number than OSU.

Keep in mind, the bar is set at invitations, not draft choices or making the roster.

Ohio State has more talent than the Gophers? Big if true

Players I'd expect to at least get a camp invite:

QB Tanner Morgan - likely doesn't have a real career though
RB - Rodney Smith and Mohamed Ibrahim
WR - Tyler Johnson and Rashod Bateman will both be drafted - CAB likely gets a camp invite at minimum and he may be drafted
TE - No one obvious at this time, unless Spann-Ford lives up to the hype
T - Faalele - likely drafted off of potential
G - Dunlap
DE - Carter Coughlin will be drafted
LB - Barber and Martin
CB - Durr and St. Juste
S - Winfield will be drafted

So - 13ish that I would be somewhat confident in by my count? Probably a few underclassmen as well that we haven't seen much of, so probably 20 total is a good estimate.

Thats a little hard to believe, Mr. Spielman. It would take the entire 1st and 2nd teams plus a few third stringers moving on to NFL camps.

I think the telling thing is in the case of Ohio St. when they're really really stacked I think it goes something like this:

- A lot of their second stringers would be clear cut starters on the Gophers, and possibly their third stringers and so on...

- It's very possible that if their starter goes down the guy behind him might be even better ...

But really I don't worry about those things, gotta get good in our division first. It's a whole other building project / dream to think about matching the blue bloods 1:1 with talent.
