No joy in receiving the email this morning... they could have waited until after the holidays. My wife does not believe in Christmas on ANY sort of budget...

Very poor roll out in my opinion. Trying to GLOSS over the fact that there is a very good chance, if the tax bill passes, that the donation will no longer be deductible in 2018. The urgency is NOW - but the tax bill passing at the last minute for 2017 creates a pinch.

If you want your deduction you have to pay in FULL (the deductible portion) by 12/31 -- or 12/29 with the holiday weekend. This is going to be VERY VERY interesting. The cost of tickets just went up 75% (if you got a 25% deduction)
$330 season ticket + $800 donation (at 40% tax cost was $480) for a total of $810 or about $110 per game - with no deduction cost goes up by $50/game PER SEAT. It would be one thing if only sections of the Football, Basketball, and Hockey -- but their rollout hit EVERYONE. It is a very psychological thing with people......

I noticed no price increase. My ticket, donation and associated fees are the same as last year's pricing.

As I understand it - and I'm not a CPA or tax professional or anything of the sort, so take it with a huge grain of salt - for the deduction to even matter from a tax perspective you need to be taking an itemized deduction (not standard on your taxes), and if the standard deduction goes up (as it does in the new bill, at least until 2025) and you're no longer able to deduct as much state/local taxes, and the mortgage deduction gets smaller, there are likely fewer folks in 2018 that will be itemizing their deductions than there are now because the standard deduction will provide a larger benefit.

I would be curious to know just how many season ticket holders choose to itemize their returns (I think for total individual taxpayers it's somewhere around a third but guessing that number is higher for folks that are buying high-priced entertainment items like football season tickets).

Of course, for marketing purposes, it would be really helpful to have the messaging in this email and give it some urgency. And to start thinking about how to deal with the fact that it's not going to be a "donation" any more - rather, it's just the cost of the ticket.

I disagree about being a "Poor rollout". The below is listed right on the site. Besides you cant blame the Gophers for something they have no control over:

Pending Tax Code Implications on Scholarship Seating
Please be aware that proposed changes to the federal tax code could impact your scholarship seating gifts. Currently, these donations are tax deductible for 80 percent of the total gift amount. Should this new legislation become law, deductions for donations related to athletic tickets will be eliminated and future scholarship seating donations may no longer be considered tax deductible.

Each individual case is different, but it may be advantageous to make your scholarship seating contribution before the proposed tax legislation would become effective. Any of these contributions made by Dec. 31, 2017 would be deductible according to current tax laws (80 percent of the total gift).

You may contact the Golden Gopher Fund at (612) 624-4653 or [email protected] with any questions or for additional information. Please also consider discussing the impact of the proposed changes with your tax advisor.

Wow! Merry Christmas to me! My tickets are in section 246. They must have re-zoned 246. Not only did our per ticket cost go down, we are no longer in a required donation zone.

My total cost last year and 2016 to renew was $1010 for two seats. This year is was only $688. I haven't paid that little for my seats since 2009.

Shhhhhh! It might have been a clerical error and you don't want them to change it back..... ;)

Too funny. That's exactly what I told my buddy with the seats right next to mine. I usually wait until the last minute to renew. I renewed today just so I could get a printed receipt with the words "Balance Due: $0.00" on it.

I found the master seat/price diagram for 2018 on the Gophersports website and sure enough, section 246 has changed it's colors/designations. Last year, 246 looked exactly like 245. It sure looks legit.

Nice. 246 is a jackpot.

May not be much for most fans, but the fact they lowered the price for any seats is good news from a fan relations perceptive. Looks like we're back to the AD living somewhere near reality and not listening to idiot consultants. I just hope the home side stadium doesn't crack in half like the Titanic from all the people on the ends of the sidelines and the empty seats between the 40s (until B1G games start with an undefeated and exciting squad, that is).

My season tickets were 208, but since I dropped those I have bought tix to many games and sat in 246 twice (rows 1-5). I sincerely thought it was a great section - both view and the neighboring fans.

We are in row 1. Thanks for the compliment. ;)

Renew by January 15th to take advantage of six month payment plan.

I find it very amusing they're pimping this six month payment plan like it is some new offering.

It's not, the ticket office has always been very flexible in how they allow you to pay. I've done both six month and four month plans over the past two seasons.

Do we know which sideline the team will stand on?

I did not take advantage of the payment plan, but I can see where it will be helpful for many fans. I a glad they made this available.

Renewed today...looks like the last year for me to itemize deductions. Go Gophers!
