I've heard this may start for next season, anyone else here this?

I know we already have preferred seating fees, I have heard that they may redo all seating at Williams through a selection process like football.

Thanks in advance to those who have some info.

I don’t have any current information and would certainly defer to anyone more connected to the situation than I am, but I was told in the spring by someone involved in the football seating program that it was a matter of when, not if, it would happen. He was not directly involved in the basketball situation, but thought that it would be a similar program where the entire arena would be re-seated. How many seats would require donations or what the price points might be was unclear, although he thought that some of the people currently making the largest priority seating donations might actually end up paying less in the new system. Whether this happens in 2010 or 2011, I don’t know, but it sounded likely that it was going to happen eventually. I don’t know whether the economy or feedback on the football situation has changed the thinking on the basketball side, but the revenue demands are certainly not going to go away. He did think that hockey would probably happen first and then basketball, although the general attitude toward those programs held by the fan bases right now might make switching the order appropriate.

I think Joel Maturi mentioned something awhile ago about using the Michigan State model for preferred seating and re-seating for season-ticket holders. I know via my parents that MSU is restructuring their basketball season-ticket seating based on years of service, giving, points, etc., similar to what the Gophers did for football.

I've heard the same thing you have, it's not a matter of if, it's when. My guess would be prior to the 2011-12 season, as I think Gopher season-ticket holders would have already heard something by now (MSU's is already in the works for 2010-11) if it was happening for next season.

But then again, we all know not to assume anything when it comes to the ticket office or communications relating to Gopher athletics. They may just dump it on us and give us 3 day's notice.

It would be nice if the U gave some additional credit to those of us who have season tickets for two or more sports. Does Michigan State handle it that way, SS?

Rick, yes, MSU gives "points" for having season tickets in other sports. My dad's recollection is that season ticket holders for football, men's and women's basketball, men's hockey and volleyball (he's not 100% sure about VB) are the sports they can get points for toward their basketball seating (they have both FB and MBB).
