Each week, Johnny Gopher and I will be attending a high school game (or two) to check out some of the local talent. If anyone is interested in coming out, it would be nice to get together before or after the game. Let me know, if anyone will be attending these or any other games. I'd love to hear what players you have seen and who you liked for future stories.

This week

Game 1
Edina (with Gopher commit Devin Crawford-Tufts) at Minneapolis Southwest at 4:00

Game 2
Osseo (with Jameer Jackson and Joey Sonnenfeld) at Minnetonka (with Josh Coville, Jon Christansen and Austin Harrington) at 7:00

I'll be talking to the players after the game and they should be two good contests.

Hope to see you out there this weekend or at a future game.

I assume my beloved Roseville Raiders don't have any talent you guys are tracking?
 






A lot of city leagues have their games during the day. Less of a chance GopherGod gets all looped up and starts chasing the kids.

I'll be at Southwest for the game tomorrow. Interested in seeing the Hornets and all this talent they supposedly have.
 

Also playing in the Edina game will be Nick Rallis, 2012 Gophers verbal and brother of current Gopher Mike Rallis.

It took us something like the first 3 years of our high school experience to witness a lakers TD.

...it went something like this.

"Hand off to the running back. He's gonna throw it. He's got a man! Drew Cutkomb with the TOUCHDOWN!!!!!"
 




Look forward to seeing all that come to either game tomorrow. If you happen to go to another high school games and see someone you like, make sure you let me know about those players.

I'll be watching Jameson Parsons tonight when he faces off against Kennedy at Bloomington Stadium. Eagan is coming off of a tough loss last week to #8 Lakeville South.
 

Let me know what you think of Parsons. I was at the Lakeville South-Eagan game last week. He had a good game, but had two interceptions down the stretch as he was trying to get them back. I talked to him briefly after the game and I'm looking forward to watching him again later this year.

Thanks for the info. The strib didn't have any stats from the game last week so I have been searching for some more tangible things to talk about him on-air with for the game.

Any other insights on his play from last week? Does he run as much as he did his Soph year, or is he more of a pocket passer now?
 

Just found out that Osseo got shut out by Minnetonka. The guys on the radio were pretty surprised to see that, as they perceived Osseo to be a offensive powerhouse (with that stud WR they have).
 

Chris, I'm not sure if any mounds view kids are on your radar but after watching tonights game against Stillwater 2 kids really stuck out to me. Maze Thompson, a hybrid de/olb, with a 6'2 210 frame and 4.6 speed was really impressive as was Jimmy Duffy, a brute te, listed at about 6'2 230. I don't know if you've heard of them or not but after watching this game I could definitely see both these kids on d1 rosters in the future. Of course, what do I know?
 

I don't know what is the best games of the week. But the best strib headline is the one in tonight, "Trojans hold off Cougars rally". I was dissapointed to find out it was about highschool football.

I should have followed you to that Forest Lake-Roseville game. Sounds like a great game 41-40. The two games I went to (Edina-Southwest) and (Osseo-Minnetonka) were a combined 67-13. Coaches Brewster, Watson and Cosgrove were on hand to watch Crawford-Tufts score three touchdowns. It was a wet,rainy night, so I am hoping for better weather next weekend.

anyone have any suggestion for games to go to or games that they are watching next week.

A slate of teams the Gophers could probably go .500 against?
 

For those that are attending HS games and "scouting" local talent. I have posted the following list on Minnesotapreps.com as a Top 50 players to watch for 2012. Any feedback on their performance is appreciated. Or feel free to send me names of players to track at [email protected]

1. Phillip Nelson, 6'2 200, QB, Mankato West (4A) - Has started both freshman and sophomore years. Led team go 4A State semifinals, where they were defeated by eventual champion Totino-Grace. Was All-State Honorable mention as a sophomore. Completed 121 of 232 passes for 1944 yards and 23 TDs. Runs a 4.6 40 yard dash.

2. Nick Rallis, 6'0 210, LB, Edina (5A) - Verbal commitment to Minnesota. Starting defensive back as a sophomore and had 78 tackles and 1 interception in 8 games. Was All-Conference HM. Is the younger brother of current Gopher, Mike Rallis, who is a starting LB at 6'2 235.

3. Karmichal Dunbar, 6'2 290, DL, Prior Lake (4A) - Son of Vikings defensive line coach Karl Dunbar. Starting DL as a sophomore recording 33 solo tackles and 1 assist, 2 sacks, and 5 TFL.

4. Kendrik Brewster, 5'11 185, RB, Cretin-Derham Hall (5A) - In 10 games, rushed for 646 yards and 5.8 YPC and 8 TDs.

5. Andrew Larson, 5'10 190, RB, Eden Prairie (5A) - In 11 games, rushed for 738 yards, 5.9 YPC, and 4 TDs for 5A State Runner-Ups. Started behind Gage Schaeffer, who is a walk-on at Iowa State. Recorded an 11.85 in 100m dash in track as a freshman.

6. Austen Lommen, 6'3 190, QB, Breck (3A) - Passed for 132/281 for 1966 yards and 24 TDs. Was All-Conference.

7. Charles Webb, 5'9 150, CB, Minnetonka (5A) - Starting CB as a sophomore and recorded 74 tackles (49 solo). All-Conference HM.

8. Chase Roullier, 6'4 255, OL, Burnsville (5A) - Starting offensive lineman as a sophomore. Was Lake All-Conference HM.

9. Jonathan Harden, 6'0 300, DL, Cretin-Derham Hall (5A) - Starting defensive lineman as a sophomore on 5A State Champions. Teamed with Seantrell Henderson for a number of games to anchor the defense. Had 34 tackles, 2 sacks, and 5 tackles for a loss.

10. Kasey Robinson, 5'9 160, WR, Breck (3A) - 2010 KARE 11 Preseason All-Metro. In 2009, had 51 receptions for 768 yards and 13 TDs. All-Conference HM.

11. Antonio Ford, 5'8 185, RB, Coon Rapids (5A) - In 2009 in six games, rushed for 835 yards, 5.7 YPC, and 8 TDs. At NUC, ran the 40 in 4.66 and 28.5" vertical.

12. Travaughn Blair, 5'9 175, CB, Hopkins (5A) - Starting DB for Hopkins. All-Conference HM.

13. Ethan Lunning, 6'2 185, LB, Zimmerman - As a sophomore in 10 games, Lunning had 97 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 7 tackles for a loss. Was the only sophomore making the All-Conference Team as a HM.

14. Ben McDonald, 6'2 220, LB, Mahtomedi (4A) - Starting LB for state qualifying Zephyrs. Completed the year with 86 tackles (57 solo) and 1 sack in 12 games.

15. Dan Hartman, 6'2 185, QB, Concordia Academy (3A) - Completed 113 of 183 (61%) for 1696 yards and 20TDs against 3 Ints. All-Conference HM.

16. Tom Anderson, 6'4 270, DL, Andover (5A) - Has started varsity since freshman season, Anderson had 25 solo tackles, 13 assists, 1 sack and 7 TFL in 2009. In track and field, placed third at state with a 57'7" throw.

17. Matt Arends, 6'1 190, WR, Prior Lake (4A) - In 2009, had 32 receptions for 450 yards and 3 TDs in seven games. Was named All-Conference HM.

18. Andre McDonald, 6'3 180, WR, Hopkins (5A) - In 2009, had 19 receptions for 379 yards and 3 TDs in four games. Was injured in game four and did not play rest of the year.

19. Ryan Popitz, 6'1 180, LB, Wayzata (5A) - Managed to play in nine games as a sophomore and record 24 tackles behind Division senior AJ Tarpley (Stanford) and Grant Olson (NDSU). Was one of two sophomores on the Wayzata varsity squad.

20. Brady Jacobs, 6'1 190, QB, Maple Grove (5A) - Completed 101 for 211 pass for 1435 yards and 15 TDs.

21. David Simmett, 6'9 340, OL, Hill-Murray (4A) - Starting offensive lineman as a sophomore.

22. Wesley Tucker, 6'0 210, RB, St. Croix Lutheran (3A) - Rushed for 709 yards, 8.9 YPC, and 12 TDs. All-Conference HM.

23. Alex Suker, 6'0 170, RB, Eastview (5A) - Earned varsity playing time towards end of season. Rushed for 150 yards on 10 carries and a 75 yard run against CDH in state playoffs. 40 yard time is 4.5. Had a 30 inch vertical at NUC.

24. Nathan Holasek, 6'2 200, LB, Chanhassen (5A) - All-conference HM as a sophomore. Recorded a 4.8 40 yard dash at NUC.

25. Tyler Hartmann, 6'3 240, DE, Andover (5A) - Starting next to fellow sophomore Tom Anderson, recorded 53 tackles (34 solo), 5.5 sacks, and 9 tackles for a loss. All-Conference HM.


26. Trey Blanchard, 5'11 185, RB, Bloomington Jefferson (5A) - Rushed for 441 yards and 6 TDs in the tough Lake Conference.

27. Mike Thomas, 6'1 290, DL, Champlin Park (5A) - Recorded 33 solo tackles, .5 sacks, and 4 TFLs.

28. Matt Olson, 6'0 175, DB, Saint Croix Lutheran - Recorded 6 interceptions and 51 tackles (40 solo) in 11 games. 2009 All-State HM

29. C.J. Johson, 6'0 175, DB, Edina - Recorded 36 tackles (25 solo) and 1 interception.

30. Eli Dotts, 5'10 185, RB/LB, Orr - Registered 132 tackles and 2 sacks on defense. Rushed for 1,096 yards and 18 TDs. All-Conference.

31. DJ Hebert, 6'2 180, QB, Osseo - Rushed for 469 yards, 8.8 ypc and 5 TDs.

32. Pete Bateman, 6'5 220, DT, La Crescent, All-Conference

33. Duke Anyanwu, 6'4 200, DB, Blaine (5A) - Only sophomore listed on Blaine's varsity roster.

34. Ryan Dahl, 6'9 280, OL, Holy Family, (3A) - Great size for an offensive lineman.

35. Nick Carr, 6'8 275, OL, Totino Grace (4A) - Great size for an offensive lineman on a top program.

36. LeAndre Kennedy, 5'7 165, RB/CB, Eastview (5A) - Ran a 4.4 40 yard dash at the NUC and 10.90 in 100m dash.

37. Joe Mollberg, 6'3 200, QB, Detroit Lakes (4A) - Reported to be one of the best quarterbacks at Gopher football camps this fall.

38. Maxx Williams, 6'3 210, LB, Waconia (3A) - Recorded 90 tackles last year with 2 sacks and 3 tackles for a loss.

39. Donatarius Taylor, 6'0 180, DB, Minneapolis North (4A) - Recorded 26 tackles (14 solo) and 3 interceptions.

40. Brett Pierce, 6'4 225, OL, Holy Angels

41. Evan Aaron, 6'6 280, DL, Robbinsdale Armstrong

42. Zach Johnson, 6'4 290, OL, Eastview

43. Connor Randall, 6'3 225, OL, Eagan
